Hey Folks. Anyone have experience with replacing the forward firing pin on Henry Big Boys? Mine is broken and I'll need to switch it out. I have an email request out to Henry to see if they'll send me one instead of sending my rifle back in worst case scenario (I just got it back from them re-barreling it, I'd rather not have it be out another month) or just sending the bolt back for them to pop a new firing pin in.

It looks like the front and rear pins are just held in by roll pins and I'm no stranger to those. My big question is whether the extractor has any relation to that front firing pin's roll pin. It doesn't appear to be so but I'd like to know in the event that it's spring tension is being retained by that pin.

By examining the bolt and looking at the parts diagram my impression is that the extractor rides in a cut out recess on the left side of the bolt and is held in by it's own spring and pin but I figure it couldn't hurt to see if anyone had first hand knowledge.

Thanks for reading and sharing any experience.

When mind broke (2010), I called Henry the owner answered; sent a call tag dropped it a UPS and had it back in 4 days. Things are definitely going to be different now (the shipping) but I believe the only way your going to get it repaired is by sending it in. The lesson I learned was don't dry fire the rifle. Have not had one problem after that. Only taken the bolt out to clean it. If you search y tube you will probably find a video on taking it apart.

I thought I would but honestly it was pretty devoid of any video on the subject.

Follow up for anyone interested.

For Henry Big Boys the roll pins do not have any relation to the extractor. Seems obvious now but good to squirrel that knowledge away.

Henry sent a replacement firing pin to me on warranty plus a few extra pieces that I didn't ask for, namely a new front pin roll pin, front pin spring and rear firing pin.

I asked about buying parts to have on hand in case anything happens again and it was extremely reasonable. I placed an order with them for 2 EA spare front pins and springs for my Big Boy 357 and 2 EA of the same for my H0010G 45-70. Shipping to me for $30 flat.

I figure if anything else happens I can swap out and get a replacement sent on warranty to replace what I have on hand. That way I don't have to wait a week for warranty parts to come in.
