Can anyone help with a sling for my Goldenboy? I do not want to drill my stock for the sling swivel and I have not been able to locate anything else. Would someone have some pics with what they use? Have a link to where I can get some type of sling? Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer.

Go to MidwayUSA and in their hunting section find slings. When you get there click on " Slings with Stock & Barrel Loops ".

Take you time drilling it and you will be fine. The loop on slings will work, but are clumsy and just plain ugly IMO (especially on a good looking, classically styled rifle such as yours).

Just start by tapping the area that you want the swivel (you want to leave at least an inch or so of wood on the front of the forearm and rear of the stock). Set the center point with a punch, then set the drill to a slow speed and keep it level (a vice and drill press is best but not necessary). Using a bit the size of the head countersink the stud slightly to flatten the curve of the stock so the bottom of the head sits flat (rather than leaving a gap on the sides or trying to screw it in too deep by hand). Install the rear stud using a little candle wax to lubricate the threads. The front should be installed in a similar manner, but using the bolt type stud (not the wood screw), this is due to the reduced strength in this area (less wood to attach to). For this one you need to measure the bolt stud, and cut it to length so it doesn't protrude past the barrel channel. You also need to countersink the nut in the bbl channel. Add a drop of blue (never red) loctite to prevent it from backing out, and your done. No damage, no gunsmith, no carting the rifle by hand to your destination, and most of all you have a sling to help with shooting.

Good luck, take your time, and have fun.

If you really don't want to....you don't have to drill into that American Walnut. There are two slings I know of that attach without sling studs or swivels. One is called the SlingALL rifle sling. I don't think it is for diehard competition cowboy shooters, but for a Henry enthusiast to tote their rifle for an afternoon of shooting, I think it does the job very well. There is no hardware and I slung my rifle withit in less than a minute after receiving the package. No drilling or change to my firearm in any way. I take the sling off when I am at the range...the rifle is just like I purchased it.

Another way to not drill the buttstock looks a little more traditional, there are leather lace on buttstock covers that you could attach to a sling...maybe attach to the mag tube with the hardware these gentlemen suggest. I don't know much about these but I have seen them.

On a side note I have three rifles without sling studs and the SlingALL slings all of them in no time. Any rifle with a barrel 16-24" slung very quickly. It eliminates having to buy hardware for each rifle.

Is your rifle a safe queen that you want to keep around in pristine condition for collector value, or is it a tool that you intend to shoot and enjoy? If you want it to be a shooter, you should tailor it to your needs. I wouldn't hesitate to drill that beautiful American walnut for a sling stud. It is a mod that doesn't take a thing away from the rifle's beauty, and makes it more functional to you. If you don't trust your own hands, take it to a gunsmith and he will do it really cheap. Most wouldn't charge you more than $15 for something like that.

All you have to drill is the buttstock. For the front swivel, you can get a ring mount that clamps to the magazine tube. Uncle Mike's makes them. They have bigger ones for the center fire lever guns, and smaller ones for .22s. That's the one you want.

If you don't want to drill it at all, your only option is one of those strap-on velcro side sling mounts, like what the military uses to convert M14s and M16s to side swivels for a tactical carry sling. IMO it wouldn't look right for the classic looks of a Golden Boy, but whatever floats your boat.

Check the Uncle Mikes web site and see if you can find the front swivel set up for a Marlin 39 or Winchester 94-22, the band that attaches to the magazine tube should be about the same diameter as your 22 Henry, if you can get the i.d. specs measure your outer mag tube and see if it will fit, a little larger id would work better than smaller you can use a shim to take up the slack if it's larger. The rear requires you drill the stock but as previous posts state, it can be done and will look great.

Another thought , I have a barrel band forward sling swivel mount on a Beeman air rifle, it is two peice, that clamps around the barrel and tightens with a screw, the barrel on my .177 cal Beeman would be pretty close to the outside diameter of your Henrys outer magazine tube. Check Pyramid Air Gun web site and see if there is any in the accesories.

And I would mount that tube band swivel right in front of the handguard, for proper position when shooting slung up. That way you can tuck your hand right up against the sling swivel. 1.25" swivels with a nice leather 1907 sling would really set that rifle off!
