Henry is a great American company. They made the original '60 Henry used during the civil war. Today they are one of the best lever action gun companies, some even say superior to the new Marlins.

That would be incorrect. This is why.

Henry Repeating Arms is a great American company. Their lever action rifles are very popular. I will leave the comparisons to the folks who own them.

Henry Repeating Arms, however, did NOT make "the original '60 rifle used during the civil war". That rifle was manufactured by the New Haven Arms Company, which later became the Winchester Repeating Arms Company.

Henry Repeating Arms is a modern company that adopted the Henry name but there is no connection between it and the manufacturer of the 19th Century 1860 Henry rifle.

The Henry Repeating Arms Company was founded in 1996.

It has zero connection to the company that produced rifles in the 1800s.

The original company morphed into Winchester.

Their marketing is designed to make people tie their new company to the old one. Madison avenue wins this round over some folks.

Everyone has there preferences. I own lever rifles with loading gates and Henry rifles with the loading tube. I actually prefer the loading tube.
I had problems with one Henry rifle - there customer service was the best I ever dealt with. I even got an email from Mr. Imperato in that process to make sure I was treated right and was satisfied with the repair.
I have also had dealings with Remington and Winchester customer service and they don't even come close to Henry customer service.
I am not putting anyone down - just sharing my personal preference and experiences.

The original Henrys made by the New Haven Arms Company in 1860-1866 did not have a loading gate...

Nelson King patented the loading gate in 1866
Beautiful Henry!! I was lucky enough to have ,at one time, owned Henry rifle #309. It was humbling to have such a historic firearm, only aprox. 14000 made, in my possession. But I would have rather had an original win. 1866.
