I found a can of Herco that was given to me a few years ago by my BIL that he had for 20 years. Thought I would try it in 45 Colt. Used 9 grains under a Kieth style that dropped at 263, powder coated and a Federal magnum primer. Going to pick up a new can of Herco and see if I get the same results. Fired 18 rounds at 25 yards from a rest from SBH Bisley with 7 1/2” barrel. I’m pretty happy with the results. The two fliers were probably from me flinching when others were shooting next to me as none of the other rounds missed.

Not a lot different from Unique. Used to be my go to powder for 9 mm. Unique and 2400 are my 45 Colt powders.

Loaded some with the old Herco and some with new Herco. The new powder had a bit more punch. Both had 9 grains of Herco, Federal magnum primer in Starline cases with 263 grain Kieth SWC.

Herco is a medium burn rate powder and will prove to be a good choice in larger cases. And heavier bullets in smaller cases!

Smiles,

Talked to the BIL and he said the Herco he gave me is about 40 years old. The old stuff is good but I noticed the new Herco has a much more solvent smell to it. Never used Herco before but I’m liking it.
