Hercules 12 ga

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A teenage friend of mine, who has asked me to teach him to hunt, was given a beautiful double barrel 12 ga. that belonged to his dad.
It says "Hercules" on the side of the action, underneath that word is Montgomery and Ward, Co.
The stock is beautifully engraved with an intricate dragon. SN is X7583_
The recoil pad says Jostam Mgfr., Anti- Flinch Recoil Pad.

Questions: Who made this for Ward's?
What year was it made?
What or is it choked?

He wants to hunt turkeys with it this season.

Thanks for any help in this.

I've got the same gun from my grandfather. I think it's made by the Stevens/Savage line as it assembles and is tooled almost identically.

I don't about the chokes though. I haven't really looking into it. Probably Mod/Full as most were back then.

It'll kick like an angry mule but for the 1 or 2 shots he'll take on a Turkey hunt, he should be OK.

Iver Johnson made a Hercules. I'm not at home, so let me see, does it look like this?
