Found a rather crusty Remington M510 .22 single on my favorite pusher's "unloved" rack at the show with $125 on the tag. I offered him a crisp hundo and four hours of polishing, sanding, buffing, bluing, oiling, and swearing later here we are-

The barrel code dates this Targetmaster to 1946. The bore is perfect and she cleaned up really nice, I think.

Should be able to get some range time in this week to ring her out. 😁

Nice work, it looks great
Thanks! Its probably my best resto yet. Took a lot of elbow grease- and a small mountain of Naval Jelly, sandpaper, steel wool, microfibers, nitrile gloves, Hoppes, Citra-D, mineral spirits, Birchwood Casey, silicone spray, cotton balls, Q-Tips, and Tru-Oil.
I really need to remember to take before pics, lol. There was surface rust on everything and the wood had some water damage.
These were "budget" rifles in Remington's linup back then, but they still put alot of quality into the gun and it shows in the machining, fitting, and walnut. It's a beautifully basic target rifle.

Nice! I just cleaned up a Marlin 15 today. Took me half the time, but I was working at keeping some of the patina, and just lightened up the stock a little with a beeswax, carnauba wax, and orange oil wood reconditioned.

That’s a good looking specimen! I have a couple I picked up over the years. I thought about chopping the barrel on the $35 one, I had to fix the stock on and refinish, for kids but it shoots so well I figured they needed to learn to shoot a long barrel sooner or later. I have a buddy that comes over semi regular and we pass them back and forth running, down to, 2” plate racks at 60 yards.

Bottom two.

Went a different direction for new shooters with a .22 barrel I made for a contender, even with a can on it, it’s shorter than the 510’s.

That said, those long barrels and standard velocity ammo are a lot quieter than many air rifles.
