I had read various reports on the HI-Point firearms and I passed on the
(pistols) at the local gunshows, however reports on the carbines seemed
good. I purchased a 40 cal at a local gun store and today I fired approx.
150 rounds of reloads(155gr FP) and some commercial HP’s had one
failure with HP’s after firing perhaps 100 rounds. I was most shocked
with the accuracy, most of the shots were fired at 30 yards, my reloads
made an inch hole at that range, the HP’s a little more. I moved back
to 50 yards and it opened up to 2.5 inchs but remember this is using
the factory sights and my old eyes beyond 30 yards require a scope.

If you want something just super fun this is it, first really low priced
firearm I purchased in years and so far a good experience.

That's good to know. I've been seriously considering a 9 carbine. I already have it approved through my (*ahem) financial supervisor, so saving up is up to me now. :D

Still waiting for the .45ACP version. Also waiting to see what kind of mag it will use. T'would be cool if they made it double-stack and use something relatively common and available in high(er) capacity than 8-10 rounds.

Any problems with the 40? I've contemplated buying a 9 myself, but have heard mixed reactions to it (most being along the "Hey, it's ugly" line). And, how hard/expensive is it to aquire mags? I hear only proprietary (sp?) mags can be used :scrutiny: .....

Any problems with the 40?

None so far, mags are 10 rounds only, not a big issue with me, factory mags
cost $20 I believe, recoil on the 40 with full power loads is noticable and
the 9mm is very lite. For the price they are fun even for an old guy who
has been shooting 50+years. ;)

Any problems with the 40?

Price of ammo maybe? I'm not a big pistol person, so I don't know for sure. I would think that 9 or 45 would be cheaper than 40 though. Can anyone confirm that? I'd like to hold out for the 45 too, but I'm not sure if I can wait that long.

I just put a 9mm on layaway and hope to have it by this weekend. Paid $195+tax for the 995 4x25 with compensator. Comes with a 4x25 scope. MKS Supply has it listed for $219 for the rifle with scope and another $25 for the compensator.

Looking forward to putting a few thousand rounds through it... :D

BTW, Eightball, I've found that sometimes the ugliest rifle is one of the most accurate and enjoyable to shoot. Don't let 'em give ya crap because of how it looks. :)

Hey, don't get me wrong, it can be an ugly sci-fi reject, but if it works, is cheap, and fun--i'm all for it :D . Though, since im under 21 :( , would it be legal for me to buy 9mm ammo for it, if i got a niner (supposedly 21 to buy handgun ammo, so i dunno what the issue is)?

Eightball: A lot of that depends on local regulations. In NY, you need to be 18 to purchase any ammo with no specific restictions for handgun ammo. As long as you're 18, pick what you want.

My view of it is that I am going to be using it in a carbine rifle. Should it still be considered "handgun" ammunition?

I bought a 9mm carbine used recently and the plastic stock broke. I contacted Hi-Point for a new one and they replaced it free. All they wanted was the serial number and an address to ship it to. Really good service. The only problem I have had is with aftermarket mags by ProMag. They don't feed as well as factory mags.

Bought a 9 when they first came out

Probably 3000 rounds through the gun at this point (Yeah, its a FUN plinker)...Alot of that was Wolf, and the last batch (that my son bought) was the aluminum cased Blazer stuff....Have had zero malfunctions...Good to know about the stock though, 'cause mine's got a very small crack between the halves on top of the buttstock...The only problem I have is paying $20 for a magazine, for a gun that only cost me $165!

Don't know about the .40 cal but my 9mm Hi-point carbine shoots right to target.Came with a laser but I removed the iron sights (They work very well) to add a scope.I have shot a few 100 of white box without a hitch and today will buy some +p ammo.
