Hi Scor 800X

I always wanted to try that one because its listed in almost every load book for 357 and 44, but I have never seen a bottle of it in real life. Maybe I'll stumble across an 8 pounder someday.

I tried a pound years ago. It didn’t meter worth a darn in my RCBS UniFlow measure, and I don’t have time to weigh/trickle powder charges for handgun loads. I won’t miss it.

What is Hodgdon saying replaces 800X? Or is it just an(other) old powder they're stopping because it no longer has a market/something replaced it a long time ago?
I never tried it. Flaming Dirt (Blue Dot) was always cheaper & easier to find for big, heavy bullet tasks I didn't feel like wasting 2400 or IMR 4227 powders on. A full .44Mag case of Blue Dot is just all kinds of fun at an indoor range. :)

Yes no longer available. I have 5 lbs left and dread the day it’s gone. Works great in 10MM and is showing promise in .357 Sig.

Biggest draw back is that it meters terribly out of most powder drops. I use an electronic powder dropper and scale to measure my loads.

i use it for 44 mag but have to use my chargemaster to dispense it. it works well with 240 gr swc. i only had 1 lb of it.

I used to use it for heavy trap loads. I actually have an empty 8 lb. metal can that I use for garbage. It's pretty dirty, but like some other shotgun powders, very versatile. I switched to American Select for all of my pistol and revolver loads. That's another very versatile shotgun powder. It isn't a magnum powder however.

That reminds me. I have some shotgun loads with 800X I need to salvage.

Yeah it meters bad but I do like it for 45 Colt and 10mm.

It’s been my go to 20 gauge field load for a while, but now that I’m down to my last pound I’m going to try HS 6 and Longshot. I liked 800X since it got lower pressures for a similar weight to Unique. HS 6 and Longshot don’t get as many loads per pound as 800X. The poor metering has been less of a problem when working with shotgun charges in the 16-24 grain range.

I remember Hogdon replacing it with IMR Blue but that got discontinued before I ever saw any of it.

Since this was revived I'll say I started loading .357 Mag with 800X last spring since it was at my LGS. I bought 2 lbs then and have about 1.3lbs left. It's not too bad for .357 with 158gr jacketed.

It taught me to love my dippers which I use pretty exclusively to measure powder. I expect I'll use the rest of it by and by but I think I'll spend more time with newer (old but new to me) powders for .357. If I do use the rest up that I have I'm definitely keeping the canisters though. A memento of a long lost powder at the very least, at the very most?... maybe someone will pay more than $10 for them as their own keepsake. Doubtful as modern PE bottles and labels don't seem to have that nostalgic feel for most but hey, never know. :)
