Hiding guns throughout the house?

shotgunjoel: "Duke, would you really cut the guts out of a bible to hide a gun!?"

You bet your life I would. I own quite a few bibles, and while the words contained therein carry spiritual meaning, the paper pages are expendible to God's mission.

I keep one in the bedstand and normally keep one in the top drawer of my computer desk - if I'm home I'll typically be in bed or on the computer. Also I normally place my pocket pistol in a convenient place in the kitchen when I get home rather than leave it in my coat - but it goes to the bedstand at night rather than staying out in the open.

I hide(Make available) one in each room. All family members are instucted in its use.

I try to keep all my firearms secure whenever I'm not at home. When I am at home, My carry pistol sits on the desk in the living room and is moved to the bedside table when I go to sleep.

Something people tend tend to not think about when stashing loaded firearms all over the house: what happens if someone breaks in while you're not theere (which is the most likely scenario)? The possible results:

a) they take them which means you've just added more illegal firearms to the streets and you have just lost several firearms

b) they happen to still be there when you come home and risk having your firearms turned against you

If you have kids, it's an even worse idea. I still vividly remember having a frined show me his fathers loaded browning high power by pointing it at me. I think I we were about 12 or 13. His father, much like most others, figured his kid didn't know where it was, was responsible enough to leave it alone, and knew proper gun safety. I also remember finding my fathers .22 rifle and WWII bringback pistol. Again, he thought he had hid them where I couldn't find them and where they were out of reach.

Guns in safes

For the price of another pistol, you can purchase 5 gunlocker type safes and locate them throughout your house. Guns are safe from the kids, always loaded. Easy access. Easy solution to readiness and safety issues.

I keep a rifle downstairs, a shotgun in my room, and often I have a pistol either on me, or within reach.

Part of why I don't hide guns around the house is I just don't have enough to do it the way I would like. Another reason is that I occasionally babysit my cousin's kid. I adjust the guns situation when he is around.

I get the money together, what I've thought about doing is buying 2 or 3 S&W Model 10s, the police surplus ones that are out there, and placing them strategically throughout my place. Problem is, I don't have the $1,000 or so it would take to get that set up.

All guns live in the safe when not being carried. That being said I have a gun for each specific purpose.
I have carry guns for the outside world in various conceal holsters. When I get home they come off my person and into the safe. Out comes the Ruger .45 and that gets open carried whenever I am home...

Call me paranoid, but I have a gun on my person when I'm home. As for stashing, there are some InCarSafes (all keyed alike) scattered around the house and cars. I'm looking at the new BioBox and may have to get a few to replace the keyed boxes I'm using now. FWIW, in Colorado you do not need a permit to conceal a handgun on your person on/in your property or vehicle.

ok..

hypothetically of course.. I could keep all my guns in the safe, then the BG gets everything if he gets into the safe..

Or I could keep a few in the safe, and scatter a few around the house.. say..

attached to one of the big tool magnets under the credenza at the front door. In a hand sewn holster between the cushion and the arm of the recliner. top shelf of the closet inside an old sleeping bag. In the kitchen in a paper sack next to the spices.. One in the bathroom using another magnet under the counter. The office, under the middle desk drawer in a holster that is riveted to the metal drawer.. In the den inside a hollowed out Medical Dictionary. In the shop in an old coffee can marked Misc Screws. Could be anywhere..

Had a friend that took down all his interior doors.. at the top of the door, above the latch, he took a paddle bit and drilled into the door, creating a hiding space at the top of the door.. guess that would only work if you had solid core doors.

Unless the BG knows you are gone for the day, or the weekend, most home invasions are snatch and grab.. they are going to toss the house and get out as soon as they can.

I'm all for hidden stashes..

What are the laws regarding a police officer coming in your home and telling you that you can't hide a firearm because "it's concealed". Can they really tell you that you can't have a firearm hidden in your own home? Is that not a violation of my rights.

Try starting a new thread with your question rather than shaking the dust off this one.

ken B, please do yourself a favor and buy a small combination lock for your gun. You can punch the combination keys in a second or less but your kids won't find them. A 4 year old WILL find your gun. They can stack chairs and climb them. I know, I did that when I was 4 years old. The only reason I'm still alive today is because the chairs I stacked fell so I wasn't able to get the gun. I fell off my chair ladder and needed 4 stiches on my face. Got a permanant ugly scar on my face because of this....

They even sell electronic trigger combination locks for rifles.

Don't forget, the BG could shoot you with your own gun if he finds them and you walk in on the robbery.
