At one trap range, a guy was asked to use different shotshells because the High Brass 2 3/4" ammo was using was a "Magnum" or "Semi Magnum" and no such loads are allowed in that range.
The range master told him that a High Brass shotshell is a Magnum load by definition.
Is that true?? I thought there was no relationship between regular traditional old fashion high brass loads and Magnum (or Semi Magnum) loads.
A Magnum load, by definition, should be a 3" shell, right??
The high brass case has no intrinsic higher strength, it's just a visual reminder for the shooter that it is a little bit more powered shell.
As far as I know, the high brass/low brass construction it's a legacy of the old paper shells where a burn through the paper could occur if the powder space was not surrounded by brass.
