I was going to say, that looks like it was healing up. A bit messy, but probably functional.
I had a doc tell me when I was a kid and scared of some stitches that it didn’t matter if he put them in - I’d still heal up. My scar would look a bit more scary, but the body doesn’t need stitches to heal a cut. Or a cast to heal a poorly set broken bone, apparently.
