What's the general consensus on High Noon Holsters? I'm in the market for an IWB for my PPQ, specifically a tailgunner (black).

Thanks

I don't use any holsters BUT High Noon.

Here are several that have come through my hands. ;)

This one is a buddy's rig for his Hi Power, a High Noon Maltese Falcon by Red Nelson,

Yeah, you might say I like 'em. ;)

I've only used their cheaper ones and they are awesome and you don't have to wait for weeks or even months.

I've used their "off the rack" holsters, mostly the Bare Asset, with complete satisfaction (within the limits of a soft holster). IMO the clips used on some of the IWB holsters are the best in the business. If you take care to firmly hook it under your belt there is no way the holster is going to come off said belt. The mag carriers are "so-so." I do understand they want to make one kind of carrier for all mags, but the belt attachment is sloppy and I had a snap come loose once. This may have been my fault for not snapping it properly (it is directional and I haven't been able to repeat the malfunction), but it spilled a magazine on the floor of a crowded restaurant lobby. I wouldn't hesitate to buy almost any of their custom holsters.

I have the Double Take mag pouch, and it is possible to think it's snapped when it's only over part of the ring. I use it at work now, and it works great. :)

The C clip IS a great clip - see these pics of my Beretta Storm in a Down Under with C clip

I've got two High noon holsters and ordered a custom fit slide guard for my CZ earlier today. Their Mr. Softy is great for my PA-63 (Walther PP clone)

This is my P-07 in their skin guard holster.

This is a very comfortable holster. With a good belt it stays put and holds the pistol snugly against my body.

I don't have mine yet.. and it is getting a tad frustrating now. They are just so far back-ordered on non-stocking items that what they say on the site will likely be a 10-12 week wait is in week 16 or so for me now.

I went with High Noon basically because they seemed to be for the most part the only game in town for leather holsters to fit a CZ SP-01. Alessi also has some, but I really wanted the 'body panel' offered in the High Noon slide guard.

Was just looking at their site early this morning contemplating a smaller footprint holster compared to my WH. Turns out I have very expensive tastes in their holsters. It is helpful that they put pictures and descriptions for and within other products. So you know when they say this, this is what it looks like etc.

I've used their "Mr.Softy" exclusively to AIWB my S&W M&P9c, Sig P250c and Kahr CW9. Simple, comfortable & affordable design that does everything I want it to do.

Several years ago, I bought the Slide Guard holster from High Noon for my then new Kahr PM9.

Since then, it has seen consistent CCW use. None the worse for the wear and tear it has experienced, there may be another one coming for my XDs45. This was the first horsehide holster I've owned. The one thing I am most impressed with is its ability to repel seat.....which in AZ is a fairly common occurrence....yesterday was 119F in Phoenix. :uhoh:

Yes - I was suffering through the heat a few miles south of you...gah. Today my Down Under by High Noon got a good workout in the sun under a t-shirt, with the temps crawling above 100 by 7AM...no problems.
If you can afford it, go High Noon.

arizona98tj,

Thanks for the updated picture of your Slide Guard. I've seen your original picture many times over the years on various forums. It's good to see your holster has weathered the years well.

Is the Tie Breaker cow hide? How has that weathered over the years? I'm guessing both holster and pouch are natural color, correct?

Thanks for the replies. I figured they were top notch, everything on their website made their products sound like they were quality holsters. Guess it's time to saving up some pennies for a little bit and get one

I almost forgot my input.

I have a black Slide Guard, lined, and a Tie Breaker mag pouch for my 1911. Both are very good. The Slide Guard rides at just the right height and cant for my tastes. If I could pick the ride height and cant for a holster, it would be the way the Slide Guard rides.

My one caveat would be, if I were to do it again, I'd probably pick the Topless model. It is basically the same holster as the Slide Guard, but without the tall sweat shield. I prefer to get my thumb to the thumb safety while the gun is in the holster. Of course if I had the Topless, I'd probably complain that I'd rather have the Slide Guard. There's no pleasing some people.:)

The Tie Breaker is also a good product. I always thread my pouch through the belt, so I haven't had the problem that The Lone Haranguer reported, though I can easily see how that could happen. The Tie Breaker is a universal single stack .45ACP pouch. It works with both my 1911 mags and my S&W 4506 mags which is a handy feature. The tension is adjustable, but it was just right from the factory. One thing I like, that I didn't realize when I bought the pouch was, since the snap attachment is at the top of the pouch, the bottom of the pouch basically rides even with the bottom of the belt. The various pouches (and there are lots of them) with the snap at the bottom of the pouch, ride much lower on the belt. The High Noon design helps concealment a little, but I think the improvement in comfort is the bigger deal. With a lower riding pouch, your hip can easily lever the bottom of the pouch out, and send the base of the mag into your side.

I've got a few, and while they seem like nice holsters, the wait / price can be a bit daunting.

If so, I've always kinda liked DeSantis - easily found at below MSRP (Optics Planet).

I did return my High Noon Double Mag Pouch - unless they've changed, I much prefer the DeSantis version, and it matches my High Noon holster's finish (in black).
Unless High Noon has changed their double mag holder:
1. The leather looks like one piece, overlapped - you can see where they skived the leather thickness where they overlap / is fastened.
2. Obviously they did so to try to maintain consistent thickness of the holder, but it didn't work - I could not get the same tension (using the tension screws) on both magazines. I'd set tension where I wanted it, and the other magazine would either be way too tight, or way too loose (depending on which mag pocket was adjusted to my liking).

The DeSantis Double Mag Pouch holder seems to use two pieces of leather in order to avoid the problems caused by overlapping a single piece. I can get the same tension on both mag pockets, AND the DeSantis holder is a bit more compact, as it has a shrink-wrapped look to it - the High Noon has rounded corners, etc - the DeSantis looks like it was vacuum wrapped around the magazines.

You can compare pix of the holders at links below, although to see what I'm talking about AFA leather overlap, you'd have to view a picture from the top:

High Noon Double Take

The 'problem' with the Double Take is a bit of a head-scratcher, as I don't know how they let that design get out? I'd think anybody testing it would have immediately pointed out the problem with trying to get the tension set?

Because it is a very old and common design used by a few other makers.
I know - I have one of the Galcos - it now resides in my holster box in favor of the DeSantis.

Mebbe it's time to teach that "old" dog new tricks?

Well it looks like the offset adjustment screws are an attempt to correct the problem I had with the High Noon design, but I still think the DeSantis design is better / sleeker / more compact.

I'm using the Double Take at work with Glock 19 magazines. One side seems a little bit tighter than the other, but not easily noticed. Beats the DOGSNOT out of that Fobus plastic junk we're normally issued - that has all the retention of a wet newspaper.

On the one I sent back, if I adjusted the front magazine to a snug, confidence inspiring tension, the back one was so darn tight it could really cause problems should the time come when you really needed it.
If I adjusted the rear one to a snug fit, the front one was so loose I would fear it would come out when running, falling, etc.
(I may have front / back confused, but you get the idea?)

I'm sure things would change with age, and you could always try to stick something slightly bigger or add some size to the too-tight magazine in order to stretch the leather, but I took the easy route.
