High Standard Deluxe Choke

I just picked up a High Standard Flite King Deluxe model shotgun today for $200. I think it was a fair price for a private sale. Serial 3160003 so I think it was manufactured around 1974? I think it has an adjustable choke, but I don't know how to find it or why I would need to adjust it. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm new to shotguns.

Those old Lyman chokes are very handy and versatile.

Tighten it as far as you can. Back up until it clicks one time. This is extra full, every click opens the choke a bit more. Don't turn it back more than one complete turn as the last click prior to the beginning spot on the out turn is IC.

You have a choke that I love. Choke tubes are the vogue now but I love those old adjustable chokes.

Remember, don't open it more than one complete revolution after you tighten it as tight as it will go.

Long range shooting requires Full. Close range, such as quail hunting requires open choke. Each game has its own required choke. Open choke opens the shot load so that it covers more area but limits its range.

Had the same model in 20 ga. sweet gun.Passed it on to my son and he swapped it for a stevens. Go figure.If you decide to shoot slugs make sure to set it on ic. Too tight a choke will throw it wild.They are great guns [imo] , enjoy yours.

If it has the Lyman or Polychoke on the end, you can't miss it. Otherwise, if there is nothing there, it might have a standard fixed choke. If it does, the barrel should be marked with what the choke constriction is.

Thanks for the info, y'all. I guess it's a fixed choke since there's nothing obvious. Can't wait to get out & shoot her (the gun, I mean).
