Highway patrol gave feds Missouri weapon permits data

http://www.columbiatribune.com/news...cle_266b644e-a235-11e2-a8e7-0019bb30f31a.html

The story says that the Highway Patrol handed over information about Missouri concealed carry holders to the Federal Government. There are many questions including why someone wanted the list and what are they going to do with the list. We keep hearing fears of ending up on a list somewhere, especially a Federal Government list.

Are other states doing this? Is it common for the Federal Government to ask, request, demand such info from the states about their conceal carry holders?

“When they turn over the entire list of concealed carry holders in the state of Missouri to the federal government, where is it going?”

What WOULD they need this list for? If you can PASS this test, you're not a criminal! Wishing I hadn't gotten mine sometimes. Now, it would seem that MY name is sitting on a list on some fed's desk, . . . reason unknown.

And they wonder why people have a DAMN hard time trusting governmental institutions!!! :cuss:

First the Mo. Dept. of Revenue and now the Highway Patrol. People need to be removed from office over all of this. It is specifically stated in our Conceal Carry laws that our personal information is to remain private. They clearly broke the law.

I want to know who in the federal government is getting this data, what they are doing with it, what legal authority do they have to collect it and what other states are providing it.

Jay Nixon doesn't give a damn. It's his last term as Governor of Missouri.

who cares if police give names of CC guys the majority of cops are pro 2nd amendment.hahahaha you can always trade reloading tips when being arrested by "pro" 2nd amendment police. I do not know what it will take to end this suicidal worship of authority

It makes you wonder if the powers at be are going ahead with a registration list ahead of schedule. First they make sure they get all the names of the CC permit holders together so they can visited later.

Um, it's a LE database comparision
the stated that they wanted to compare the list of CCW against those receiving SSDI/SSI
which the believed that they would find those faking Social Security claims

IE, being disabled is ban on owning guns...
think on this, compare lists, and then you are looking at,
YES you have a disability (FBI showing up to arrest for unlawful possession)
NO you don't have a disability (FBI showing up to arrest you for SSA Fraud)

I mean, yeah the fakers need to be taken care of, but I really doubt that many would have been found this way. And those that did, probably would have had a good 4th or 5th amendment case to squash the prosecution as fruit of a poisoned vine (IE illegally acquired evidence lead to the investigation)

That could very well be true, . . . . and it was just that "the cat was let out of the bag" in Missouri.

It is absurd to have that list. A list of a bunch of LITERALLY law abiding citizens? For what reason? They already did an indepth background check on each person before giving their conceal carry license to them.

Since when? Are you required to sell your guns to qualify for a disability? Does being on a disability disallow you from owning a gun? Even if its all true, it sounds like an illegal "fishing expidition" to me.

I would think that being disabled would be a very important reason to HAVE a gun. Maybe some of our legal scholars could weigh in on whether this might be discrimination which is prohibited under the ADA???

ADA relates to accessibility in public accommodations, reasonable accommodation for qualified individuals with a disability, disability discrimination in employment, and retaliation. It does not relate to the issues raised in the original post.

Some provision of FOIA, I presume. Arkansas recently had their Arkansas State Police CHCL data base sealed, but not before a PO'd liberal, in a final act of defiance, put a link to the information in her Arkansas Business online newspaper. I missed the part in the discussion where the data was secured by an agency after the fact (OP's thread). Anyway, our personal data is everywhere an alphabet soup agency hangs its hat. Link below on our own FOIA publishing debacle:

I'm on disability. I have Parkinson's Disease and osteoporosis.
Why should being on disability be a ban on carrying a weapon? I need one more than most, as I surely can not fight or run.
I've cracked a rib just by leaning against a fence. If they hit me in the chest they could break my ribs into my heart.

As a resident of MO, I have a reasonable feeling my name is on this list that was illegally provided by the Highway Patrol.
To say that I am upset about this is a huge understatement. I have effectively been betrayed by my own state.
Does anyone with background know what sort of legal avenues I have to pursue? I am a Full supporter of law enforcement and even carried a bumper sticker having donated to the Highway Patrol. I want to take what actions I have available to me to make sure the law is enforced.

JR, I would like to know that as well. These records were SUPPOSED to be kept private. Sending them to the feds requires actions being taken. I hope some [with far more pull and resources than myself] are working on this right now.
