Because you mentioned a backpack and not wanting a belt holster I think you might like The Chesty Puller Conversion System made by Simply Rugged. (you have to add a holster to the system) If you already have a favorite belt holster for your G20 this system will be just what you need to convert that holster to a chest unit. If you need a holster the have The Cuda for semi-autos. They make a full line of great products for a fair price and more importantly, they all work and work well. (no, I'm not affiliated with them at all)

Hey grimjaw,

I have one of those maxpedition sitka packs too. I really like the quality of it but that thing gets heavy feeling quick when you start jamming stuff in it. I think it's because of the single sling instead of distributing it equally over both shoulders. Sometimes I'll just take it out to the woods to do a little shooting and I'll have a 1911 and 50-100 rounds of .45ACP in it along with some other things like maybe a stapler and stuff like that. After walking for a while I start to feel the weight and it's not really "heavy" but it gets kind of nagging the way it's distributing that weight. How much weight can you comfortably carry in yours? Maybe I need to experiment with distributing it better within the pack or adjusting the pack somehow. Maxpedition makes some great stuff from what I've seen so far.

I love how you can sling the pack to the front and access your stuff easy. That's really convenient for me when I go out hiking in the snow. I don't want to put stuff on the ground and get it all wet. Good stuff.

I'm a backpacker, too, and I appreciate your choice of the G20. I carry the G29 because it's a little lighter, and can be concealed a bit easier if desired. I typically OC on the waistbelt of my pack with a modified Bianchi Accumold holster that can be easily unbuckled from the pack belt and moved to my regular belt when I drop the pack. As mentioned above, the Maxpedition and Wilderness Safepacker are excellent choices if concealment are an issue. If I want to carry concealed in the woods while wearing a pack, I will bring along the binocular case by Mountainsmith shown in the photo, and purchased at REI. I like it because it has dividers and can carry a few other goodies, too. Sometimes I will carry it in the summer while strolling downtown with my wife. Good luck!

Chest carry

As a camping enthusiast, I agree with the suggestion of a chest carry. However, the separate (yet cool) chest rigs are out for you because you will be carrying your pack.

I suggest a simple Uncle Mike's holster through which you can thread the back pack's chest straps.

I am with you all the way with needing protection while doing serious back pack camping and weight.

Ok, folks, let's help this fellow member with carry solution!

Maxpedition is probably a great choice. Fanny packs, or a good belt holster will work as well. I carry in a OWB leather holster with a trigger cover that has a retention strap just in cse I stumble.

heck man, if you're carrying in a fanny pack you can do with something big like the baretta 9mm. Unless you get attacked by a bison you'll be okay.

I open carry for the most part and run a uncle mikes thru my belt on my pack. In cold weather my hacket keeps it hidden. I have also used various carry bags attached this way.

Good move - great caliber and gun and if you reload your close to a 4` mag if needwd. Good luck

Don't sway from the G20. Great gun and great cartridge.

I have the G29. Use the 15 round mag from the 20 when in the woods.

As stated before. Safepacker. Works great. Protects the gun. Non-descript. Easy to access the gun. Room for aded items. Can be worn on belt, hooked to pack or slung over your shoulder. My experience with the Safepacker is, you won't go wrong.
