I recently received a Charles Daly HiPower that I sent in for repairs. It would experience failures to extract about one in twenty rounds. Unfortunately, it still does. I really thought it might have been repaired but experienced the same failure that appeared to begin after about 35 round mark.

As I had to wait six weeks for the handgun to be serviced by KBI the first go around, I would like to see if this is something I can fix myself.

Here's the description of the malfunction: fired cartridge will remain in the chamber and a live round that attempted to feed will be found pressing against the case head of the casing that remains in the chamber.

It doesn't stove-pipe or exhibit any issues to eject; if the shell is extracted from the chamber, it ejects without fail. There are also no feed issues.
This has occured so far with four different types of ammunition, including 115gr ball ammunition (Speer Lawman) and has happened twice while others were firing so I know it's not user-error (and I've never experienced this kind of malfunction from any of my twenty-some other semi-auto handguns).

So I'm guessing it's an extractor issue or a maybe a rough chamber?

If the rim of the case does not show damage from the extractor trying to pull it out after firing, the chamber is not the problem.

Either the extractor does not have enough tension and does not grab the case during feeding or it is pushing the round ahead in front of the extractor during feeding and the extractor never engages.

To test the tension remove the slide from the frame, place alive round under the extractor. Shake the slide lightly and rotate the slide as you are shaking. The round should not fall out. If it does, the extractor needs more tension. Remove the extractor and bend it in very slightly, a little goes a long ways. Try the shake test again. Repeat as needed.

If the round is preceding the extractor, get a heavier magazine spring from Wolff.
