Any preference between the two in the HD versions? The HK is the one with carbon fiber finish. Sorry for another "vs." thread.

I've checked both shotguns out. The FP6 is about $100 - $150 more expensive than the 870 HD here in Socal.

The one thing I was not happy about w/ the FP6 was that the heatshield seemed to have a gap between the barrel. Plus although the CF looks pretty damn cool, it doesn't seem durable. I've read somewhere also that the CF finish isn't real CF of course, and its just a sticker thats applied to the shotgun. Looses points in my book.

The 870 HD. Cheap finish, but everything else I liked. The fit was good as usual for every other 870. I liked the look of both, but the 870 has the edge cuz its what I'm most used to.

In the end, I'd take the 870 and pocket the extra cash

Maybe i'm a little biased, but these big name "tactical" pump-action shotguns seem to be a waste of money. I was recently at a gun show and saw an FN Police Tactical. It's my Winchester Defender with rifle sights, a mounting rail and a $400+ mark up. Not to mention that stupid CAR collapsable stock that HURTS to fire. That stock was designed for a rifle that shoots tiny little .223's, not 12 guage loads, even the light ones.

I paid $280 for this.

Tell me, what makes this worth nearly $700? It comes down to one word, "Tactical". The universal excuse to charge as much as you want for a gun.

Just ask yourself is some barrel shroud is worth an extra $150, because thats all you're getting for your money. As a side note, if it's all that important, you can buy one for $20-25

870....

It will not wear out, break, or shoot less effectively. It will protect and feed your family for generations and provide recreation for maybe 100K rounds before needing parts or a rebuild.

As for the much vaunted "faster" rotary bolt, maybe the 3 gun heavies here can tell us just how many 1300/FN Tacs are winning the shotgun legs.

Well, it is fast, but i don't think it's appreciably faster than other bolt designs. If there is an advantage, it's so slight that it really comes down to the operator.

It's kinda like comparing how many seconds it takes for the slide to return on a beretta versus a sig versus a glock....can your triger finger outrun any of them?
