He is a retired SMSGT, and not only have US owners thanked him for showing us the simple technique used by the German Bundeswehr, the Norwegian and Portuguese did it the same way- based on just some of the readers' comments.

Maybe this will help just one person out there who is also new to a PTR-91 (my first arrived a week ago), the original HK-91 or the CETME.

Even with a dry bolt, my thin rubber Bottle Cap "Gripper" made this process even easier.
Schnell und einfach.

This Next guy has the only other method I had seen which is fairly simple.

I wish that I had remembered this German video before spending time watching about two others which were a bit more involved and awkward.
Being retired there was plenty of time to watch so much during the 2-day UPS (= 3 & 1/2 or 4 day) shipping period.

This entire gun purchase was never the plan in the past, but was only due to a purely random PTR-91 brought to the Jackson TN show two weeks ago by a "good old guy" who rents tables at shows in that area.
My only plan after selling two redundant guns was to buy a WBP Fox AKM that night (online) - but some tiny "Siren voice" from the Lorelei called me to finally try something Very different than my recent core type of centerfire rifle (7.62x39).

I hope you enjoy yours! I bought one a few years back but found that it was much more fun in theory than in reality. Still, it was an interesting experience and I learned... well, more than I wanted to about those rifles! lol

roller lock rifles can really rock and roll. And if you cant get the bcg back together, it is heavy enough to be a serious projectile all by itself.

Recoil?
Having frequently shot a pair of Enfield no. 5 “Jungle C.” (Mostly with no added recoil pad), and the Spanish FR8 Mauser carbine…

…the recoil in this “HK” PTR-91 seems very moderate, even with skinny shoulders (age 66). Beats an 8mm Mauser, thanks to the HK-styled 9.4 lbs. weight and roller-delayed system.

The only recoil I “notice” is when viewing today’s ..
.308 Ammo ….Prices.

I think recoil in this series can vary due to the buffer and possibly the timing of the action. I had a Farmington (or bristol I forget) FR which was absolutely brutal. Like I had no idea a 9lb 308 could kick like THAT. but also a few of the GI's which weren't too bad. I also have tried brakes and aftermarket heavy buffer and they can tame it right down. So much in fact that it felt like the muzzle went down instead of up.

Jesse brings a select-fire G3 to take turns shooting with pretty Sofilein/Sofi (she shoots only select-fire, from 10:18). Incidentally, she is an expert on tanks.
Minor point: When he discusses the "7.92 Cetme" round, he means the 7.62 C..Anybody can make a verbal mistake.

He is an HK armorer who has a simple solution for HK/PTR-91s with noticeably heavier recoil than expected.

At 13:11 he discusses what the armorers often found when customers complained about harsh recoil.
Here Jesse describes guns stored vertically, wich have accumulated a good bit of oil accumulated downwards into the friction buffer", with the obvious solution.

Harsh recoil is nearly always related to a worn bolt locking lever, a weak locking lever spring, or wear on the bolt head where the locking lever rides.
When I do my locking piece tests at the range I sometimes have to change the LPs 5 times in a range session to get the high speed recordings I need. Jump to the 3:04 minute mark in this video:

A retired Bundeswehr Colonel I met at a SOF convention years ago showed me the inverted carrier back in the receiver trick. No hammer needed, just a small but sharp movement with the hand whilst holding on to it does it just fine, and you have no greasy fingers.

Anything more complex is just overthinking things, and the comment it 'distorts' the receiver is just BS.
