Okay,...I have never actually been hog hunting for the purpose of hog hunting although I did kill one in West Memphis Ark. back in the mid seventies, though that is a rather humorous story for another time.

Question,...Is there a difference between ferrel pigs and wild boar? The reason I ask is that in the TN hunting regs, both are mentioned but there is no elaboration accept for a very vague description that is the same for each.

What am I missing?

As far as I know they refer to the same animal. All Old World pigs in North America are considered feral and treated as such by the law- no seasons, no limits, etc. I think there is only one species of New World pig in the US (the other two are South American).
You can tell the two apart by their tusks and general appearance, and their hooves are derived from different toes and some other stuff that's more interesting than it is important to hunters.
Basically, if it's not a Collared Peccary it's considered feral regardless of whatever name anyone calls it.
The only difference in the terms "feral pig" and "wild boar" is that the later is a more specific term for a male feral pig.

Here in Texas they're available for hunting and are regulated like whitetail deer and other native animals. If you check the map on the right side of the link (assuming it's correct) you'll see that in TN, you're native-pig free and should only need to adhere to general hunting guidelines same as cyotes and rabbits. At least it's that way in Texas.
