Hog hunting with a 7.62x39 ?? Possible?

You mention hunting with your sks, my sks gives the primer a hell of a wallop, never had a misfire with russian steel case ammo and killed quite a few pigs and a ton of goats with it. The round actually has more grunt than most people give it credit for.

I agree with that. Recently I built a hanger for two AR500 plates. At first the chains were too long and the 7.62 flipped the 8" plate all the way over the top of the carrier. I fixed that and it took about 20 more shots before the soft bolts I used to hang the plates where bent and broken by the impact of the shots. I didn't hit the bolts, it was just the impact on the plates. I'm actually impressed how hard the round hits at 100y. I would have no issues using it out to 150 or maybe even 200 yards if your rifle is capable of it.

I agree the 7.62x39 is perfectly capable but the Rossi rifle you have is not a good choice. I would trade it in and get an SKS or a Saiga. It will be equally if not more accurate and it will definitely be more reliable with more types of ammo.

Well, I already have an SKS, something that someone long time ago sportorized, cut down the barrel below the bayonet lug and added a strange looking front sight to it. Functions well but sights are way off and I don't have a scope mount for it.

I do have a nice AK, is an Inter-Ordnance, American made receiver and barrel, uber-reliable and fairly accurate in comparison to other AK's I've owned. Unfortunately, again, no scope mount, no rail on the side of the receiver. And I'm not going hog hunting with the lousy sights they put on AK's.

Never had a problem with the iron sights on the sks in the bush, faster to get on a moving target than a scope and a much wider field of view. I'm happy shooting with them out to 150 metres, but remember the first notch is a battle site set for 300m so in close in aim low.
Never tried a red dot on it but that would be my next choice over the std sights for close and fast shooting which most piggin seems to be.
