This thread is disappointing. We're recycling the same dumb jokes over and over in such a self-congratulatory and confidently superior way that we sound like idiots -- underestimating the real danger presented by the aggressors here.

The truth is, at bad-breath distance, your beautiful marksmanship form and pinpoint accuracy may easily be defeated by a thug with a Hi-Point (on it's side!) and a willingness to use it. He may not know a lot about guns, but chances are he's a veteran of several shootings and knows how to fight quick and dirty. There are some studies floating around here that indicate that a significant percentage of criminals get MORE practice with their guns -- and more "practical" practice -- than do most police offices or many armed citizens. Their gun may be just a tool, and their techniques might make them look ignorant to our eyes, but chances are they know what they're doing.

If we all know that the "gangsta hold" isn't a good idea, what are we accomplishing with all the mockery and ridicule? Just making ourselves feel smart?

Sam1911...Good point...^^^^^
While there is some good humor represented here, "reality" needs to be kept real...I had originally commented on holding the gun sideways...However, after reading your post, I realized the seriousness of what you said, and deleted my original comments....However much I might laugh at the whole sideways holding "gangsta-thug" thing...that guy has probably used that weapon (even if it is a hi-point) in more real-world situations than I have...a bullet launched from a gangsta-thugs sideways held hi-point hurts every bit as much as one fired from mine. (Ruger,Kimber, Glock...etc....pickone)...Funny?..hmmmm...not really!

How about this:

Shootin' in a crowded hood can produce unacceptable collateral damage, so they learned to hold the gun up high and to shoot down. This way, any strays should hit the ground rather than into unintended targets. Holding it high and aiming downwards naturally forces your wrist sideways.

I was made to understand that they held it sideways because that's the way it came out of the box. LOL

we were taught to cant it outwards if drawing and firing from the #2 position to avoid the slide hitting us in the gut.

I think a valid point could be made for setting up basic handgun skill courses in the 'hood. We could volunteer our time to teach the gang bangers how to actually shoot. This would not really reduce the number of gang bangers killing each other, but it would very likely reduce the people killed by stray bullets........
