Hollow points illegal in NJ?

AFAIK it still is! Get some Federal EFMJ. May want to ask around if PowrBall is legal there.

hot pig is correct as long as it doesn't leave the home it's ok. You might be able to shoot them at the range but I'm not sure about that

If you are law enforcement you can but NJ thinks everyone else just aren't pro-feshnal enough to carry a glock fotay with hollow points. :fire: If CorBon PowRball is ok that would probably be your best bet like Rusty said.

So we can have them in our homes. Can we shoot someone w/them in self-defense legally?

Probablly not, I got in trouble once because I got asked for my gun , by a LEO, and he didn't understand why I had 2 types of ammo staggered in the clip. That one cost me a couple grand in court costs for nothing. Any excuse to grab your gun, and make you pay to get it back, most people in the tri state area, know of some legal carry permit holder who has been hassled, some cops just hate to see a civilian with a gun, licensed or not

At least as legally as you can shoot someone with FMJ or LRN, yes. The specific statute makes it illegal to POSSESS HP ammo, then grants an exemption for possession within the home, transporting from place of purchase, transport to the range, or carrying while hunting.

Gym, where were you when this happened?

AFAIK, it is OK for range use, and as OK as any other for home defense, but it is illegal to carry. But then, 99.9999999999999999% of the population can't get a CCW in this People's Republic anyway :cuss::cuss::cuss:

To summarise

In NJ, HP are

1. Legal to buy
2. Legal to sell
3. Legal to own
4. Legal to take to and from a range
5. Legal to use in the home as an SD round.

If you are going to/from a range DO NOT DIVERT such as to a Starbucks or a diner.

Always police your vehicle after transporting and make sure you don't have a loose round rattling around.

EFMJ are acceptable
SP are acceptable
PowRball are acceptable
Glaser are acceptable

ALWAYS have your FID on you when you have your weapon.

I would suggest that you keep a photocopy of your "permit to purchase" in the hard case you transport your pistol (make sure it's the one for that pistol)

Welcome to the joy of NJ....

The HP ban is a sentencing enhancer.

Also, please note that IF you are one of the luck 650 people in NJ who have a non work related carry permit, that there is no HP exception to the law, so it's hardball for you.

Sounds like Mexico to me. Thank you so much for reminding me why I moved out of that hole 28 yrs ago. Joe

Trouble with moving away means there are fewer of us to try and fight the good fight.....:(

I always thought it was weird, I mean HPs are made to not over penetrate, it would make more sense to ban the defensive use of FMJs.

True, but you have to consider these laws are made by the same people that actually believe there are plastic or porcealin guns that can go through airport metal detectors, hollow-points are "cop killers" that penetrate level IIIA vests, and AK-47 clones can fire 600 rounds per minute.
If they were at all concerned with public well being or had a shred of knowledge about firearms and ballistics they wouldn't force you to use bullets notorious for overpenetration.
