D59FBD7A-122C-4ABD-BF5F-FAA23487E067.jpeg took a little adjusting had to raise my temperature to about 750f to get them to not wrinkle but I hope in time that it will smooth out and be like casting solids. I do love the way they look I just need to gas check them and see how they shoot. I am going to see if I need to check them before or after they are powdercoated.

I would just powder coat and not bother with the check.
But if the check will fit after coating do it then so you only have to size once.

I will try them over a healthy dose of HS6 without a gas check but will definitely put them on for the H110 loads.

Any time I use a bullet with multiple small drive bands like yours I always gc them. The gc is considered the bottom drive band & a chronograph will pick up on this real fast. I've seen 15,000psi loads affect these types of bullets velocity wise when no gc vs gc's go head to head. The pc will help but it's not a cure all.

I cast a lot of the Thompson design bullets, the 358156 hp for the 38spl/357's. And a h&g version (#142) of the lyman 429215. The h&g mold is a 2 cavity mold with 1 cavity having a hp pin, the solid nosed swc gc is 220gr and the hp swc gc is 200gr.

I made my own gc makers for the 22cal's/30cal's/35cal's & 44cal's and have done a lot of head to head testing with gc vs no gc.

The key with those brass molds from MP is to run them hot. That also includes the pins.

When I get a new mold from Miha I scrub it down with hot water and Dawn.

Then I dry it off, heat cycle it three times in the oven. Up to 350, hold for 30 minutes and let it cool in the oven. Then I smoke the cavities and preheat the mold and start casting.

I don't often smoke cavities but I've found it REALLY helps with those brass hollow point molds. I also smoke the pins. You should only have to smoke the cavities once.

I did cycle them 3 times to 400 and let cool in the oven after I scrubbed them with Dawn and a toothbrush. I didn’t smoke them but as soon as I got the temperature up to where it needed to be the wrinkles disappeared. Now if I had used something besides coww like adding some tin I might not have had to go as hot as I did.

Smoking a mold can do amazing things. My last two MP brass molds were plenty hot and still dropping wrinkled boolits. Smoked the cavities and good boolits.

I've just ordered another MP brass HP mold. This one for .45 ACP.
