HollowPoint vs Pointed SoftPoint 243 deer

My suggestion would be to stay away from the hollow points. The only animal I ever lost to the 243 was after a hollow point bullet one of the gun writers wrote glowingly about back in the 70's...
100 gr soft point, my rifle's have all got along very well with the Hornady interloc bullet, Speer makes good ones , and the Remington corloc in the bulk pacs are a real hidden gem.
H414 and 4350 have both shown the best in accuracy and velocity for me.
..They had the Remington Cor-Lokt at the local sporting goods store in boxes of 50, but they wanted over $20 dollars for them

I used to get them from either Cabela's or Midway, for about half the price of the others. Haven't bought any for quite awhile, the last box of them I bought 500, and that will likely last well past the time I'm dead and gone.

I ran 75 gr Speer or Hornady HP for years on chucks.
Switched over to Nosler BT when they came out. No going back.

Run varmint bullets for varmints. Deer bullets for deer.
There may be some that try to do both.

I'd not experiment with such. Was not impressed with the damage done by my WW 100gr SP. But it was a broadsider at 50. Appears that the bullet is designed to hold up on angled shots. Will hammer one in the shoulder next season, see what it does.

I reload, but this factory ammo my rifle loves. Cloverleafs at 80 yds (hey the 75 yard bank eroded............and my rifle is a woods rifle, plus wears a fixed 4X).
Am content to try some premium stuff this summer, maybe test.............but I have a few boxes of reg factory to fall back on.

Sorry ...I didn't mean to exclude any other brands of Hollow Point bullets .... I am sure that there are others ... I was only relaying the the brand(Sierra) HPBT I and several of my hunting friends have experience with .... I 'll be glad to list the Sierra bullets and their numbers so there is no confusion about just any HPBT bullet .... I am listing only Sierra bullets listed as GAME KING ....
These bullets are all Hollow Point Boat Tail bullets designed for medium to large game except as noted(Varmint Bullets)...

.224 Cal. #1390 55 gr GameKing .... This is a Varmint Bullet.
.243 Cal #1530 85 gr GameKing .... This is a Medium Game Bullet(deer & Antelope) ... will work as a Varmint bullet on larger varmint
.257 Cal #1615 90 gr GameKing ...... This is a Varmint Bullet
.257 Cal #1650 120 gr GameKing ..... This is a excellent Deer bullet ...
.264 Cal #1728 130 gr GameKing ..... This is an excellent Deer Bullet ...
.277 Cal # 1835 140 gr GameKing .... This is an excellent medium and larger Game ..
.284 Cal #1912 140 gr GameKing .... Medium & Larger game
.284 Cal #1925 160 gr GameKing ... Really Tough Bullet for Large Game
.308 Cal #2140 165 gr GameKing .... Medium to Larger game ... tougher bullet than the 165 gr SPBT

So ...Yes there are Hollow Point Boat Tail Game bullets designed for Deer sized game and up ....

"...90 gr GameKing......This is a Varmint Bullet..." So's the .243" FMJBT and its Speer doppelganger. Drops a ground hog instantly with no exit hole. Hide hunting bullet. Not for deer.
Sierra says their 85 grain HPBT is fine for deer. Its jacket is cut for rapid expansion though.
Been using Speer 105 grain SP's for eons. You really do not need a varmint load and a deer load though. Unless you're hide hunting Wiley any deer bullet, usually 85 grains and up, your rifle shoots best, will do nicely.

"Sorry ...I didn't mean to exclude any other brands of Hollow Point bullets .... I am sure that there are others"

.257 Cal #1615 90 gr GameKing ...... This is a Varmint Bullet
Sunray ... please note this is a .257 Cal bullet and it is a varmint bullet ...not suited for deer use ...

I killed herds of deer with a 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip in "my" Rem Model 7 6mm until I made the mistake of letting my wife shoot it.

Now she kills herds of deer with the same bullet in "her rifle".
