Mosin M44 + Czech training ammo is the best combo for fun this past week.
After owning a couple of self-loaders, this is my first bolt action rifle, and I simply love it. Even the rangemaster had a good laugh at the big fireball it spews. The felt recoil with the Czech ammo is less than the Su-16CA with a compensator. The bolt does need some POSITIVE effort to operate. Tip: the front retaining screw adjusts the amount of force needed to open and close the bolt.
The ATI stock I put onto it does not have a handguard, but I had my shooting gloves on to prevent any scorch.
With its bayonet extended, it looks more menacing than my coworker's pre-ban decked out AR. Accuracy is pretty good with best groups around 5" with stock sights, considering this was made in 1945 and is rated only Good grade with cracked stock by Century. The only downside is it took me five hours to clean the dried cosmoline off.
