holster as wallet for Ruger .380

Having just bought a Ruger LCP I have been debating what if any holster to get. A holster that looks like a wallet caught me by surprise. Has anyone owned one and fired his gun through it? I would like to know if it works. Is it easier than pulling the .380 from a pocket holster or from an empty pocket. Is it the fact that the bad guy thinks you're handing him your wallet? If it encloses the gun totally and looks like a wallet, it is illegal under ATF regs.

My personal thought is the Holdster makes getting a fast grip on the draw a problem, and not much to hold onto with only one finger doing the holding.

I'd suggest you just get a good pocket holster that stays in your pocket when the gun comes out.

I believe what you are talking about would be considered a other type of weapon. Firing it from inside the holster would make it so. I am not an expert but someone on the lagal site could tell you more.

I think it would be very cumbersome to use something like that. You'd be much better suited, in my opinion, with a good pocket holster. You could just as easily put it in the wallet pocket and draw it as if you were retrieving your wallet. I've tried a couple different ones, and I still can't find any that beat the Mika pocket holster. It may not be the prettiest one out there, but it is one of the most affordable ones, is custom made and it just plain works.

When drawn, although it remains attached to the gun, it does not attempt to disguise the fact that it holds a gun, so it should be legal. My concern is that there is virtually nothing to hold on to, as your finger(s) cannot wrap around the grip. It is no more difficult to draw from a pocket holster like the Mika - which I also am a fan of - which allows your hand and fingers to get a full firing grip.
