I hate bagging my gun between stages for Steel Challenge Shooting so I made this holster for my Ruger/Volquartsen Black Mamba .22. I couldn't find one already made so I copied a design from Ernie Hill Speed Leather and went at it.

I'm trying to shoot without using the wheelchair so I'll be making another holster for standing.

I enjoy doing leatherwork and will like any comments on the holster.

Gorgeous-how's it attach to the chair? Any pics of the back would be interesting...

Nicely done. I mounted a holster to my wife's wheelchair using a shell from Alien Gear and some starboard. It's mounted to where it's almost completely concealed but can be immediately drawn.

The holster work looks fantastic. I am guessing you have a sewing machine for stitching? I hate to hand stitch the simple leather stuff I make. And it would be hard to do with leather that is laminated that thick. More pictures of your work please.

Dad gum that would have to be a huge holster to carry a wheelchair...

Looks awesome. It looks like a very well thought out design that you copied and it looks like you did an incredible job of copying it. Is there a metal form inside of the leather to give it the rigid rounded shape or did you do that by forming it?

All stitched by hand. One of these days I may buy a machine but I mostly do it for myself. Bull barrel holster.jpeg Black Mamba Basket Holster_0003.jpg DSC_7085.jpg

I copied the design from an old Ernie Hill Speed Leather setup. I admire his work a lot.

It's formed using two layers of 9-10 ounce leather with a carboard stiffener inside. The belt loop also has to be lined for it to not bend.
Thanks for the info. Off the subject of barrel length but I am curious since you shoot competitively. What is the trigger pull of your revolvers in DA? Do competitors want as light a DA pull as possible?

Wow! Really nice work. It like like ut was done on a machine. I like the stamp work too. Thats something I have never tried.
The stamping is easier than you think. Just take your time, use plenty of light so you can see what you are doing, and make sure your leather is cased enough ( lots of water).

Good Luck.

Thomas T:
My trigger pull on centerfires is 4.5 pounds. My 617 .22 is set at 7 pounds to be able to set off any ammo I use.

Yes, for Steel Challenge and USPSA we revolver users try to get 6.5 pounds or lower. If you go too low you have a hard time resetting the trigger. The rebound spring has to balance perfectly with the mainspring.
