Holster Help (2" J frame)

I have a S&W 640, and I'm looking for a IWB holster for it that is fairly 'deep'. I already have a Don Hume IWB holster (H715-M S.O.O.T.: Snap On ), but it causes the weapon to sit fairly 'high'. This causes the thickest part of the weapon (cylinder) to be under the belt. I was looking fo something that would securely hold the gun with the cylinder below the belt, with just the grip sticking up above pant-line.

Anyone know of such a holster?

Yeah ...

... I've considered it. I just ... I dunno. I'm not concerned about shooting anything sensitive (I know that thunderwear encloses the triggerguard) ...

... I guess my only concern is this: how easy is it to draw from Thunderwear?

No matter what type of holster you get just remember, practice, practice,practice


And with thunderware thouse of use that are a little biger than most it mite not be a good idea to carry useing thunderware. As far as me for some reason i like to ware my pants tight around my waste, so when i tryed the thunderware in my CCW class it was harder for me to draw than most.

"A little bigger than most" in what respect? Given the location of the holster...this could have multiple meanings.

I don't know if you have an Oshmans store near you or not and, I don't remember the brand of the IWH I use either. Doesn't sound like I know much huh?

Anywho, at Oshmans, they carry a tan colored IWB holster that is suede and had a wide, dark metal clip attached. I bought one for my J-Frame Model 60 and love it. It carries deep and comfortable and the best thing is, it was only $12-14 bucks. Now, I did not buy the one labled for small J-Frames, the gun sat too high in it. I found one that was the perfect length, the gun sat down in it and, it covered the trigger and hammer without being sloppy at all. IMO it should be the one made for the J-Frame. Better still, the suede molds itself to the gun after a few weeks of wear.

Wish I could remember the make, the holster doesn't say and I don't have the package.


EDIT: It may have been the one labeled for 3-4" small revo's instead of the one labled for 2-3" small revo's?

How about a grip clip? Then you will not need a holster. You tuck it behind your belt and a portion of the grip hangs over the belt and secures the piece. Don't know who makes it, but have seen them on j frames.

It looks OK for an Auto, but I'm not to sure about the revolver clip. I would be affaid of damaging the yoke retaining screw... Just my 2 cents.

Birami Hip-Grip for Coronach's J Frame.

Coronach, you might want to consider the Barami Hip-Grip. It works for my wife as well. When armed, her little Colt 38 is on her person, not in her purse.

Using Yahoo or Google as a search engine, you can get to their website.

We have Barami Hip-Grips and a Tyler grip adapter on her Cobra, my 638 and 3''Mdl 13.

J Frame Holster

The best I've tried is an IWB by FIST. The Kydex is very thin, it adds hardly any width to the gun. The one I got can adapt to different belt attachment methods. It allows me to convert the holster to a between the belt and waistband hold. But, that was not a good idea as it turned out. The kydex is kind of slick and it helps to have the butt tight against your side to help hold it in the hoster. So far, my experience has been that my model 637 stays quite secure at the right side of my back.

Anyone have pics of how 'low' that Barami will ride? Its a little hard to tell from the website exactly how it will sit.
