Just got my White Hat holster.

I like it overall, although I am surprised how large it is.

The leather digs into my leg at the 2 or 3 o'clock position.

Is this holster meant for a 4 or 5 o'clock carry position?

What type of IWB holsters work best in different positions?

Now that I've finally settled on a carry gun, I need to settle on a holster.

Have the Raven Concealment and now the White Hat.

Raven is great for OWB but not great for a 2/3 carry IWB. I honestly haven't carried the White Hat enough to complain about it. Maybe when the leather softens up I'll be alright. Just curious if it's a type of holster I'm trying to carry where it wasn't designed for.

I'm not that familiar with the White Hat line of holsters, but I believe they are basically of the Crossbreed Supertuck type, a slab of leather with a piece of kydex attached to the leather, correct?

Most of those designs are better suited for carry in the 3:30 to 5:00 area (for a righty). As you've noticed that is a lot of holster to stick forward of your hip.

Muzzle rear cant, usually known as FBI cant, usually designed for carry behind the hip. Straight drop, or even muzzle forward cant is more suited to forward of the hip, often called appendix carry.

Carrying right on the hip, at 3:00, is often difficult for concealed carry, as that is usually the widest point on a person and it is usually to your benefit to move the holster either in front of or behind that widest point.

Notice at Raven's site, they offer the standard cut which is designed for farther back, and the MD cut which has less cant, and is designed for carry farther forward on the belt.

Most, though not all appendix carry holsters are straight drop and more compact in design. A couple that come to mind.

Raven makes a holster for IWB carry forward of your hip, called the ACR

Here is High Noon' take on cant

Correct.

I really like it overall. Thanks for the advice, I suppose I am still learning about holster types and how they are designed to be carried.

Try a few different positions. I tend to carry further behind the hip, so nothing digs into it. If you can adjust the can't, try giving it a little more muzzle rearward can't, like JTQ said, it might move the muzzle up a little so it won't jab you.
