I just want to know which holster is good for hunting from Pocket holsters, belt & shoulder?

FME.......chest rigs are tops(different than shoulder rigs). While I have several SD handguns that fit into a pocket holster, I don't have any hunting revolvers that would. Hip holsters seem to be awkward when hunting with a jacket or other heavy outerwear and seem to get caught on everything as you walk thru the woods.

Cross draw chest rig with a good retention strap. Easy access and comfortable all day. Use the retention strap when walking or climbing. Dropped my SBH in a creek one day crossing it when I had to duck some cover and forgot to fasten the strap after sitting during a hunt.

I either carry a Glock 23 in a serpa holster on my belt or a 1911 in an old leather US tanker shoulder holster. I never carry the 1911 if I am in a tree stand- the safety harness with that thing is just too much going on.

I carry my CCW the same as I always do. If it’s comfortable enough to wear everyday of the week, it’s good enough to wear hunting.

My hunting hand guns are all way to large for any pocket holster, XP-100, contender, scoped revolver, those all get shoulder holsters made for them or just carried.

What firearm are we talking about and are you carrying it with the intent to use it as the primary firearm on your hunt?

In what weather?

I did a post similar to this a few months ago and most answers were to go with a chest rig. I’m still looking for which one I am going with but it convinced me to go with a chest rig.

For my T/C Contender and XP-100s I put straps on them and carry them like slinging a rifle. With my Blackhawks and Old Army I use a right-hand belt holster shifted to the left side for crossdraw. It doesn't dig in when seated and is easier to draw when hunting.

A chest rig is by far the most convenient and comfortable woods carry option for me. I really like Alien Gear's offerings.

I have a simply rugged sourdough pancake for my Blackhawk and one for my single six. It wears close to the body and keeps your gun protected. Once I get to my spot I'll set with the gun in my lap. Or if I'm still hunting while moving to my spot I'll have it in hand.

I have used an uncle mikes nylon holster, and I have used a cowboy rig, both with Blackhawks.

I also have made a bandoleer holster by putting the uncle mikes on a rifle sling. It worked but was floppy. The deer don't care how it looks long as it works.

I also have carried my ccw in normal rig while long gun hunting.

Hunting what??? And what handgun? The holster I use when I'm hunting ground squirrels with a little 22 semi-auto pistol is not the same holster I used to use when I was hunting mule deer with a large 44 Mag revolver. And neither of them is the same holster I'd use if I was hunting anything with my 14", 7mm IHMSA bolt action single-shot.;)

I use a surplus M7 shoulder holster and a 1911. Be prepared to treat the holster in oil for a few days prior to assembly. Tough as nails. But after some break in, it’s actually a decent rig.

Are you using your chest rigs while hunting with a rifle or are those of you using the chest rigs hunting predominately with only a handgun?

Also a fan of the simply rugged sourdough for heavy revolvers, I’ve got plans of getting the cheat rig system for them. If that doesn’t wor for me then I plan to try the diamond D leather guides choice. I’ve heard good things about the Kenai chest rig but I don’t like how the barrel is exposed.

If I'm casting for fish I wear my rig. Around camp I wear the rig. While hunting I have my rifle, no rig.

When I still had my BFR 45-70 (7.5in), I used a bandolier vertical shoulder holster.
That style worked really well for the 5+ lb revolver.

The holster at the top is a Milt Sparks "200AW" and is the highest quality holster I have ever seen. It is comfortable, very protective of both the gun and the wearer, and a joy to wear. It is absolutely my favorite for outdoor use.

The only downside is that after a few years of use, it doesn't look nearly so nice!

Yep, chest rig all day and twice on the weekends. It’s the natural evolution from shoulder carry.

I still have an Uncle Mike’s shoulder holster, but I only use that when I have my 8 3/8” M29 with me.

Chest rig for me. Most comfortable for a heavy pistol, easy to access whether sitting in a tree stand or hiking through brush. I like to put my jacket over it to keep the junk out of my pistol.

I'm only out for feral hogs, but sometimes that requires climbing over, under, or through a fence. I'm carrying a .22 pistol that's identical in form to a full size 1911 and I use a canvass holster with a Velcro flap to protect it. I wear it on a separate belt so that I can easily remove it when I get ready to clean a hog I've shot.
