In October a new book appeared on the history of holsters in the 20th century. It is by well known holster maker R.E.D. Nichols and John Witty. It is likely the best work written on the development of the holster over the last century.
Here is a link to where you can get the book.

Here is a link to the discussion of it over at the S&W forum where Red got much of his information and discussed the book. Excellent pictures in it and a book full of gun lore.

The book is pricey right now as it's a first printing and a small press.
