as you all can tell, im abit shaken, but about 8 minutes ago, a shot was fired behind my house. after securing my "perimiter" (house) and calling 911, what other steps should be taken?

Sit on the floor. I had a buddy that used to have to sit on the floor because his grandma's apartment in NYC had bullet holes in the windows... 11 stories up!

How long have you lived in the Valley? Not long I'm assuming.
When I hear shots fired, I usually just open up the back door and yell at them to knock it the hell off!
If you're really concerned about it...get the hell off the computer and bunker yourself down for a repeat of the OK corral.

when i lived in long beach and had that happen i just loaded a gun. then i got used to it and did nothing.

computor is now being used as a laptop. and i have lived in the west valley all my life. never had shots fired in my alley. i dont care if they are down the street, but my alley is too close. and to top it off, they made me miss the end of "a fistful of dollars"!!! *what*

Heh, it happened to me before in Meriden, too. I'm pretty sure what I saw was a dispute, and I dont believe anyone got hurt, cuz there was nothing on the news on it, but the cops came a few minutes later.

all is quiet on the western front. my gues is it was some gangbangers out for target practice. i would move, but living in an area that had over 700-800 assaults of all kinds in two months is interesting. it raises some eyebrows when you answer the question "where do you live?".

I like my boring life. I sit here awake because my shoulder hurts like Hades. Way too much exercise! Then, I decided I was hungry...two grilled cheeses sure hit the spot!

There is your first mistake. The second is feeling a need to post 8 minutes after gun shots are heard. Really. Of all the last things to do before you die from a stray bullet, is posting on this forum one of them?

rofl, this kinda reminds me of something that happened on the overclockers forums, once a guy there was messing with an open computer monitor and touched a capacitor.

he posted on the forum asking if he should go to the hospital about his numb arm...

hehe

When shots are being fired in anger, I've always found a cold brew to be comforting.

Biker

Where I live, gunshots behind my house means:
1)the beginning of hunting season
2)I just got a new gun
3)my cat grew thumbs and took one of my guns to go postal on the local wildlife.:neener:
Now when I lived in the city(Albany)and heard shots,I'd dive under the couch.
I love living in the coutry.
For now I suggest keeping you head down and call the cops.

Sounds as if you did what you needed to do (911). Beyond that, be alert & prepared in the event there's an attempt for some perp to fire shots inside your house. Having a shottie close is always comforting during stressful times.

This thread is funny. "Someone is firing gunz! Oh no!" lolol :D

My old house is Detroit got shot at! Two rounds hit the house about 3:00am in the morning. Dad called the cops and they did whatever the hell they did in about 15 minutes and then they left. We went back to sleep and that was that.

We had shots fired this morning in front of the house. Now we have a rabbit for the stew pot and a proud as punch 8 year old.

If I hear shots behind my house, it's me practicing.
Although there are 4 or 5 other people that shoot within hearing distance.:)

Like has been said, Move.

I grew up in Baltimore Maryland and moved to Texas in 1966.
In 1971 I was going to move back to Baltimore for a job.
After four days back in that cesspool I said, "I use to carry a 45 in the car but now I feel like I need to mount a machine gun on the hood. I'd rather starve in Texas than live like this again".

Although there are 4 or 5 other people that shoot within hearing distance."

The joys of country living. I'm in the same situation.

It would be inconvienient if the neighbors called the cops every time I went out back and fired a few rounds.
