So I think the batteries I put in my Homak safe are almost dead. Both the red and green LEDs were on the other day, and wouldn't let me in the safe. Now it wants a 5 digit code to get in, but both codes (the one it came with, and the one I made for it) are only 4 digits.

Homak CS is closed for the weekend, and my carry weapon is safely stuck inside of it. Any suggestions besides a crowbar?

A 5 digit code that's longer than the normal code sounds like a factor default code. Those are usually pretty simple...like 0-0-0-0-0 or 1-2-3-4-5.

I did a little googling on Homak and came up with some interesting critical reviews on Amazon:

According to one review, the factory said there were 28 possible factory codes and gave him a list (he didn't provide them). However, apparently you only get three tries per day to open it, and then it locks out for the rest of the day.

There are a significant number of poor reviews on Homak pistol boxes which involve exactly what you're experiencing.

I didn't find anything useful on a google search for default codes, so you may be out of luck until Monday. However, if this were me and knowing the poor reviews due to exactly this problem, I'd seriously be considering trashing this one and buying another brand...which would mean I wouldn't have a problem prying or hacksawing it open.

Good luck!

I appreciate the feedback.

I've owned the safe for 5 years, and this is the first time it's given me any sort of problems.

The factory default code I was given was actually only 4 digits, but I've tried a few common five digit codes, like you mentioned.

Mine came with two keys for just such an occasion. Homak calls them "Manual Override Keys". I've use them and they worked perfectly. On mine, you remove the electronic control panel just as if you're replacing the battery and slip a key into its corresponding slot. Takes very little effort to open the safe.

Smalls;

Does the keypad have a * or # symbol? If so, try star 1234, or 1234 star & the same w/the pound symbol.

Unfortunately I don't think the safe has manual override keys. The keypad is not removable from the outside, and the batteries are replaced from the outside.
