It's not that alarming. The burglary rate has been relatively unchanged for the entire decade. In fact, it was radically higher in the 80's and 90's than the 2000's.
 
Your title is misleading.

I think you're confusing "Burglary" with "Home Invasion". Burglary is when the BG enters (with or without brakeing anything) to commit a felony or theft. These include stats of daytime burglaries (when most residental burglaries occur). A "Home Invasion" is in fact a robbery where threat of use of force by the BG is made.

Using the FBI definition, all home invasions are burglaries but not all burglaries are home invasions.

It's pretty sickening if it happens to you. Much like any sort of crime...

Prevention is still the best cure. We've talked about 'house hardening' often enough that it shouldn't require a repeat here.
