Hi all,

I'm interested in getting a holster for my newly acquired jericho .45 and have run into the problem that everybody does, nobody makes a holster for one with the rail (yes I knew before hand that this would be an issue). One of my options is to buy a leather holster for a Sig P250 which I tried at a gun show and felt pretty snug.

Another option I'm juggling is making a kydex holster for it. I'd want it to be IWB and I'm wondering if I could possibly make one that resembles a cross breed supertuck holster. If I could buy the snap clips from cross breed, and maybe a chunk of leather to work with and a kydex sheet. In the words of Jeremy Clarkson: "how hard could it be?!"

I really really like the looks of the crossbreed holster and I think that it would be more comfortable hands down than the P250 holster I looked at. Is there any advantages to consider between leather holsters and kydex? What do you think? Could this be a good idea, or again as Jeremy would say: Ambitious, but rubbish!

this is a duplicate of a thread I posted on 1911forum btw thanks!

I found a number of Youtube videos on how to work with Kydex. Doesn't seem to require too much in the way of tools - a toaster oven seems to be the core requirement.

Leather, tools and snaps you can get from Tandy, www.tandyleatherfactory.com. Kydex is available from Jantz Supply, www.knifemaking.com.

I make a pancake holster with high leather in the back, so the butt of the gun doesn't touch the body.

I modify this by cutting a U of Kydex. The base of this U goes across the toe of the holster and is attached with Chicago screws (available from Tandy and Jantz.) The ends of the U are drilled and two belt loops with snaps attached with Chicago screws.

The result is a highly stable "tuckable" which can also be worn as an OWB pancake.

Why not just get a Kholster?

They have a lifetime warranty (even if you trim them), have a similar design as the Crossbreed and are inexpensive ($49.00 delivered).

If you are interested in them let me know and I can give you a code that will give you a 10% discount on top of their already low price.

You will probably have near this price by buying the necessary components and the time involved.

I have one and it's great.

If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll give you the code and instructions on how to recieve the 10% discount.

I actually looked at getting a Kholster but they do not make one for the jericho.

Any idea what kind of leather I should get to make the holster back out of? Looking at the link above in the 'leather' section theres all sorts of leather to choose from. I'm guessing I'd want to get something somewhat stiff correct?

Also, what is a good thickness for the kydex to get? Is .060 enough to support the weight of a gun? Oh and one more thing, I'm not sure if all holsters are like this but the insides of kydex holsters appears to be smooth. Does it come like this or is it because they have been sanded down to this finish? Thanks everybody!

Will the Jericho fit a CZ .45acp or Witness/Tangfolio holster?

Kydex comes textured on one side and smooth on the other. I use a lot of Kydex for motorcycle accessories that I make. The best place to get it online is Knifekits.com. They also have any fasteners (Chicago screws), belt clips, etc... that you may need. The .06" would be awfully thin for a holster. I'd go with the .08" Kydex for an IWB holster and the .09" for an OWB. The .125" is good for making belt clips, if you don't want to use the pre-made ones. Buy extra Kydex to play with before you try to make your first holster. It takes a little time to get the knack of heating it to just the right point without overheating it. However, it the learning curve is short and you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. Kydex is pretty inexpensive, and it's fun and easy to work with. Make sure to post some pics of whatever you end up with. Good luck!

I doubt it, the Jericho's slide and frame (not to mention the rail under the dust cover) are pretty different from either of those. Like I said earlier, I found a holster for a Sig P250 that worked pretty well and held the gun snugly, I just don't think it would be quite as good as the kydex holster that Cross breed (doesn't) make for the jericho. That and I think it'd be pretty fun to make something like this.

I picked up a Bersa Thunder .40 Pro HC and also couldn't find an IWB that fit my gun. I have both a Crossbreed Supertuck & a CTAC Minatour and like that syle so I took a stab at a DIY leather/kydex hybrid. The shell is from .060, the clips I made from .090. The kydex & some hardware (eyelets & chicago screws) came from knifekits.com, the 8 oz. leather & rivets came from usaknifemaker.com. I formed the shell using a form press made from some hinged sheets of 5/8" plywood & foam layered from pieces taken from a $5 sleeping pad from wally world's sporting goods.

I increased retension a bit by spot heating the trigger guard area & using a round tool handle to make a pronounced dimple inside the trigger guard.

I like the "C" clips CTAC produces, so I took a stab at a homebrew kydex version. I formed kydex around a 1.5" form & then trimmed to get the "C" shape, which was attached to the clip base by a couple of eyelets.

It fits well, is easy to draw from & re-holster to. I probably spent as much as I would have on a store-bought one, but now I've got plenty of left overs to play with (probably enough to do 3 more ... ). If doing this one over, I would do the shell with shiney side in/matte out. I'd also cut the leather a bit different (more meat around the clip attachment points & just a bit more behind the hammer).

Nick that looks great! Do you feel like the .060 thickness is enough to secure the gun? I don't think it looks as thin as everybody makes it out to be, looks to be sturdy enough. The Jericho I have (fully loaded) weighs the same amount as a 5'' 1911 fully loaded however.

Personally I think the .060 is plenty thick for a shell that is fully secured around the perimeter like this one or the Crossbreed. .060 is probably not stiff enough for a design that is essentially open on one side (other than tensioning screws) like the minotaur. In any case, this is working fine for me so far. I believe the loaded weight of the Bersa .40 HC something like 2 lb. 6 oz ....
