I built this about 6 years ago from juniper and sinew backed to increase performance and prevent breakage.Juniper is very knoty and sluggish so the sinew backing makes a big difference even this light coating

Seriously cool bow. I want to build a primitive bow but have never gotten around to doing it. What is the string material?
The string material is polyester yes I am cheating on the string sinew would be a good natural string but most of the strings I used back in Australia were twisted rawhide. This is how I made the polyester string Paracord could be used this way as well or on its own for a lighter survival bow.

Very nice! I've never gotten around to a true "stick and string bow"
This made me smile, I'm just getting back into shooting traditional and working on bows.
Closest I've come to a real traditional tho is a red oak board bow 5 or 6 years ago. I just twisted up a new 12 strand 452x string for my takedown, but it's not what I'd call a real stick bow.
