Sorry if this has been posted. This is pretty brutal.
Police raid a house that has been broken into a few days earlier by police informant, who gave them bad information. The homeowner shoots and kills one officer during the raid. The homeowner has no criminal record.
The homeowner is facing murder charges.
The store notes if police accidentally kill during a raid there are no charges.

I'd go check the late March/early April 2008 threads. I have a hunch this has been posted. Either way, I smell a thread lock in the short term.

if the neighbors observation that only 2 officers were initally present can be confirmed then this is all going to go quietly away.

If charges are dropped or a not quilty verdict is rendered this guy better move and fast.

But it looks like he's screwed.

This is a homeowners nightmare.:what:

Here is more on the case, dirty politics :(

The prosecution fought like hell to keep these interviews from being admitted into evidence. And with good reason. They're damning to the state's case. The prosecution, remember, said in its opening statement that Frederick was "stoned out of his mind" and "in a blind rage" the night of the raid. The prosecution then elicited testimony from police informant Steven Wright and jailhouse informants Jamal Skeeter (who has since been thoroughly discredited) and Lamont Malone that portrayed Frederick as a cold, calculating killer, who was boasting to fellow inmates about bringing down a cop, and even disparaging Det. Jarrod Shivers' widow.

In the videos below, a frightened, repentant Frederick weeps and shakes. At one point, he vomits after contemplating that he'd just taken a life. According to the Virginian-Pilot, in one portion of the video not depicted here, Frederick "curled himself up into a ball and cried" when the detectives left him in the room alone. The audio interview in particular is incredibly wrenching.

(Yep closing arguments are today)

That is why no knock warrents, especially by plain clothes officers, are a bad thing for everyone. I have to be honest, if someone kicked down my door with gun in hand, and didn't have a uniform or at least announce that he was a cop, I would probably be in the same situation.

Same here.

And putting aside the legal element for a moment, I would feel terrible if I shot a cop. I wouldn't loose a bit of sleep if it were a BG, but I'd be pretty messed up if it were a cop...probably need some head shrinkage at that point.

I hope that this thread does NOT get closed before we hear the outcome of the trial. This is the type of crap that turns what otherwise would be good citizens against this lousy and morally bankrupt government.

Well, when I first mentioned a lock, I was thinking about two things: 1) this was an old subject; 2) it would probably turn into a cop bashing thread--both of those meet the criteria for a lock.

Since then, a new angle was introduced--the trial is about to close. Had that been mentioned in the OP, I would have not mentioned the lock. If we don't get off track, we may be able to see the conclusion.

No kidding!

No knock warrants are definitely a bad idea. What if a smart criminal (sorry, they're not all a bunch of stupid idiots like we'd want them to be) caught wind of the idea and started busting into houses yelling POLICE as they did? How on earth would you be able to tell the difference?

Around here home invaders pretending to be Cops are getting more common. Usually, so far at least, its mostly drug gangs raiding other drug gangs stash houses it would seem.

This is supposed to be America, stop the Gestapo tactics against our Citizens!

This isn't really the proper venue for this discussion.

However, for those wishing to get the full scoop on this incident, Radley Balko, the journalist who works for Reason Magazine, has done a fantastic job of detailing the facts of this case along with the despicable treatment of Frederick by the justice system.

You can read all of his blog entries here.
