That's fine! You know, holsters are getting to be as collectible as guns are. Sort of wish I had not passed up on a Lawrence 120 some years ago, for $12.00!

I was excited I got this one for a low price. Had a horrible time trying to figure out if it would fit or not. The numbering system changed at some point apparently and the older ones are hard to figure out. I ended up just crossing my fingers and buying it. It turned out to be a good match!

I share your enthusiasm for just the right old holster or sheath.

Congratulations.

Todd.

When I saw the gun on the wall at the shop I knew it was used. It's got some holster wear and stuff but mechanically it's sound. I didn't realize til I got it home and did a little research how old it was.

The guy who was selling the holster thought it was made in the 40's (or earlier?). Like the gun it's in sound shape but has some wear. You can tell both items have some stories to tell so they're a good match!

That means you need more revolvers to try to fit the holster to... its all in the angle you look at it...

I like the way you think. I've been on a wheel gun kick lately. I sold a Ruger SP101 in 22lr last fall to fund something else. I missed having a 22lr revolver though and picked up a little S&W 63 back in February. When I went back to pick it up I ended up buying this old one. And then before all the virus craziness hit I bought an S&W 66 Combat Magnum. (Somewhere in the midst of all this I sold a Vaquero chambered in 357 but that's ok. It looked cool sitting on the desk for a couple years but I only shot it once or twice.)

Nice job getting that classic Lawrence holster! It goes great with your S&W M&P!

Don't store the gun in the holster.. Many of the tanning procedures left acids in the leather that are detrimental to the finish on the gun.
I, do not store my guns in there holster. what I do is get a piece of plastic pipe, wrap a rag around it if need to increse the diamater. Stuff that in the holster, seems to hold the shape.

Cool rig!

I would suggest getting a little neatsfoot oil inside that holster. Not too much as you don't want to soften it per se, but a good too rub will protect the leather from flaking and shredding. A beeswax black powder lube rub will do the same thing with less risk of soaking in if that's something you have to hand.

Thanks I don't have any of that on hand. I'll have to pick some up!

With an old dry holster some 100% pure Neatsfoot oil from Tandy rubbed in will help.

Fiebings liquid glycerine saddle soap is a good treatment for most holsters that seem a little stiff when new, such as Triple K. It makes the interior smoother and softer without taking the needed stiffness out of the entire holster.

Thanks everybody! I'm getting an education I never knew I needed about holsters!

I want to keep this old thing (actually both these old things!) in nice shape.

one holster I have kept rusting my gun when it was in there, but my older holsters don't affect the finish on my guns. is it a old versus newer holster thing where it kills the finish?

Man that’s the truth! I took some bluing off of the muzzle of my Model 19 2 1-2” by leaving it in a Galco Miami Classic for too long.

That’s a great find for that old revolver, now when you strap it on for a hike you need a red checkered flannel, some comfy Wranglers and a pair of Toms waterproof Chukka boots to walk the woods in

Stay safe.

I think it’s more of the process and chemicals the maker used to tan the leather rather than the age.

Some holsters I have that are black haven’t affected the guns finish while the brown or lighter tanned ones have. I’ve also had verdigris form on the brass snaps on older tanned leather knife belt pouches as well, this is probably from the same chemicals affecting the bluing.

Stay safe.

You've definitely got three fine looking Aces there with the guns, the grips, and the holsters!
