I have chronicled my past 43 years shooting "Tibbie", my 870 TB trap gun may times in in more than one thread. About the only things left on it from the factory are the buttstock, recoil pad, and the barrel. Some time back, after replacing a trigger group, slide action bars/forend, and firing pin, I discovered a crack at the rear of the ejection port. I figured, that old, replace it and move on so I transplanted a vintage receiver and have been shooting it for the last ten years. Last Sunday, at our local league shoot, my older son noticed a crack in his 870 at about the same place as mine. I decided to test the waters and contacted Remington's service center. They created a repair code, sent me a phone number, and to make an already long story short, sent me a FEDEX shipping label and said to send the whole gun in for evaluation/repair.
After a short search, I found the original receiver and a little later the bolt. I really don't want to send the original barrel in as I have maintained a 96% trap average at 16 and caps all these years and would hate to lose it in transit. I may sub another 870 trap barrel from a backup gun.
Anyway, if I get a new receiver marked "TB" I'll be one happy camper and we'll send son's gun in next. Heck, I'd even pay for a new pad and reblue. The tech on the phone was a hoot and invited me to shoot trap at his club if I'm ever in the area. He said they were "out of bankruptcy" which is encouraging.
