Hornady L-N-L OAL gauge question.

I am going to pick up a OAL gauge and I'd like to know which one. The only non-bolt gun that it will be used on will be an AR. Since the AR upper and lower can be separated, can I use the straight model on it? The straight model looks a bit easier to deal with than the curved. And it would be a shame to buy the curved just for that one gun. :confused:
 
Found some language that seems to answer my question.

•Designed for all bolt action and single shot firearms, plus weapons with straight line chamber access
