Can someone with a LNL AP mounted directly to their bench with a casefeeder tell me, if measured from the front of the bench, how far back the casefeeder mounts and the overall height off the bench it needs, especially at the back of the casefeeder.

Considering adding one to my bench but have some space restrictions, mainly with height due to a sloping roof. Thanks.

My case feeder is 37.750" from the top of the bench to the top of the feeder. You need to have enough room to dump cases in it. My bench is 38" high and I have 58" from the top of the bench to the ceiling.
From the front of the press to the furthest point of the back of the feeder is roughly 17".
My bench is 28" deep with an 11" shelf and the feeder clears it even though the hopper is higher.

Not an answer to your question but relevant nevertheless:

Consider using an Inline Fabrication Quickmount and bracket. I easily switch in and out my LNL, single stage, and MEC 600 Jr. 12 gauge presses. Adds about 3/8" (guess) to the overall height, but do need to tilt back to insert the lip into the slot.

Love it.

Thanks for the info. Just so I’m clear, when you say 17” from the front of the press are you referring to the front of the press body itself, like where the dies are inserted or the front edge of the bench itself.

If from the press frame itself I may have clearance, but I don’t know how wide the press is. Thanks for your help.

I stood up a 4' level and plumbed it against the back of the top of the case feeder. It measured 12" exactly.
This is the furthest back it goes from the front of the bench.

That's exactly what I needed, thanks a lot! Ended up picking up a lnl this evening at my local sportsman's warehouse. They were kind enough to price match midsouth shooters supply online price. Hope to be stuffing some cases tomorrow after Thanksgiving dinner.

Good luck hopefully it is the model with the upgraded case feeder bracket. Or did you just buy the LNL and not the LnL ammo plant?

Boy, that's sounds like a pretty good deal. Last time I looked at my local Sportsman's they were going for over $400, Midsouth was $379.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving day!

Just got the press only for now. If it does well I will add the casefeeder later.

Yea, the price on the shelf was $479, was definitely not paying full retail on an experiment. Wasn't sure if they would price match or not, especially a non local store price, but they did with no hesitation. I do spend a fair amount of money there though. The guy that was helping me mentioned the online price he matched, $378.99 was basically their cost.

Almost forgot, also got a free hat for spending over a certain amount of money, AND a $50 in store certificate, no minimum purchase required. If this press pans out I will use that $50 toward extra bushings or shell plates or something.

That's really something. Congrats on being a good shopper and on the new press! Let us know how you like it.

For handgun you will soon want to upgrade with the case feeder. Good choice to master the LnL before adding the case feeder.

If you do get it, make sure it has the bracket strengthener that Mr. Revolverguy suggested. If it doesn’t, Hornady will send one for free.

Repeating, I do love my quickchange mounting from Inline Fabrication and the Inline ergonomic short handle I use while sitting at the reloading table.

Oh, I did get the spent primer bottle and the Hornady 1911-shaped primer tube loader -- a lot easier than poking primers one at a time.

How does the quickchange bracket work with the casefeeder? I was under the impression the casefeeder bolts to the back of the press, does the casefeeder and press both go with the bracket? Seems like that would weigh a lot and be tough to store.

Also, how do you like the short handle with regards to priming? Seems like the primers don't seat as deep as I would like, even putting something under the primer punch, would think less leverage would make that even harder. Im coming from years of Loadmaster use, and while they certainly have their challenges, setting the primer depth was one of the things I liked the best about them.

Definitely plan to get a primer filler of some kind. Do you find the Hornady filler works with all kinds of primers or does it favor certain brands? Have read the Frankford Arsenal has trouble with Win and Fed, my two favorite brands.

If you don't mind me asking, one thing I have noticed about my brand new 2 day old LNL press, there seems to be a lot of slop in the linkage, meaning I can take the handle at midstroke and move it left and right several degrees. It also rotates the shellplate back and forth with it, and it can be moved enough at the bottom of the stroke to misalign the cases going into the dies. Even at rest I can take the linkage or drive assemble and wiggle them back and forth quite a bit. Having a hard time believing this is suppose to be this sloppy but maybe Im missing something. Called Hornady today to ask them about it but they are closed til Monday.

Sorry to hit you with all the questions, but any insight is much appreciated.

The brass feeder and press is not very heavy since the press is made of Al. The biggest issue is having the base mount set out from the bench to give clearance for the feeder against the wall.

I don't recall my LNL-AP having that much play, there is some but not much. Never been a problem but mine is one of the real old ones that was upgraded from the wire ejector to the EZ-eject base plate. m

The quick change bracket works easily with the case feeder. I keep one hand on the tall square bracket and the other on either the die frame or the handle, depending on which is easier at the time. The hose from the spent primer drop and bottle can be a bit of the pain when setting it down leaning against the wall at a table edge. The unit is heavy but not impossible. When putting the tab in, it goes in easily and needs no other support while fastening the wing nuts.

Never a problem for me.

I use cci mostly. Both large and small work fine. Some of the Win large tended to be sticky.

Mine were tight, and not a problem. There are you tube videos about adjusting them properly. I did have a problem keeping the handle hex bolt tight at first. Tended to slip and work its way out if I didn’t watch it.

With the ram midways down mine has about 1/8 of an inch of side to side movement, and yes you can see the shell plate move if you push it sideways hard enough but I've never thought about it because it never caused me an issue.

The frames are made out of an Aluminum alloy of some kind but I never considered them to be light.

The hopper on top of the case feeder lifts right off, it's not bolted on. You will need some ceiling height for that also. You should have about a foot of room above the top of the case feeder hopper to comfortably lift it off and to dump cases in it. When you change calibers you have to change the plastic tube to a larger tube, 40 S&W won't drop down the 9mm tube, and this is the only way to do it. The aluminum bushing on top of the plastic fits up into a recess under my left hand.

I find that convenient for dumping case cleaning media out it every so often and changing collator plates unless you 7' tall. It doesn't matter how well you clean you cases that stuff gets in there but it all goes down under the shell plate where it doesn't cause any trouble. It doesn't get into any mechanisms on it and doesn't come down the tube.

I use my case feeder for short cases like .380, 9mm,40S&W, 45ACP and so on, and it works really well for them. Anything with a heavy head to body weight ratio.
I've never tried .223 cases in it, I don't own one.
For cases like .357mag it runs a lot and gives little yield. I just turn the case feeder off with .357mags and drop them in the case funnel half ways down the feeder assy when it's open on the down stroke. It's really no different than setting them in front of the case pusher except I'm dropping them in a funneled hole instead of reaching into the press to set them down. This way I leave most of it set up for 9mm all the time.
Just a little less tedious. case funnel.jpg
