Hornady LnL AP Powder Measure Problem

I've been having a problem with the LnL bushing on my powder measure backing out as I use the press. I have to check it every 5 rounds or so to make sure it's tight. Anyone have any ideas as to the cause and hopefully a cure. I've slready talked to Hornady and they don't have a clue.

As a start to diagnosing your problem, have you tried changing bushings?

If you switch it with one of the other bushing, and the bushing of the powder measure still backs out, you at least know it is not the bushing and can then start looking elsewhere for a solution.
 
Is it backing out of the LNL press insert or is the powder measure backing out of the threads in the bushing. Check to make sure the locking ring is tight against the bushing if it is backing out of the threads. If it is the insert and the bushing check that the o-ring is working to apply pressure to keep the two parts in place. In any event your description is to vague to give a better answer.

jrumsey - The whole measure - bushing included - is backing out of the frame.
Shoney - I have tried using other bushings with the same results.
I have noticed that my bench has a little bit of flex in it so I'm going to remount the press in a much more solid location.
 
How about a different position on the press? You can probably run some cases through there with an empty measure to test. If that works, then you can test with another die in the same position (maybe a sizing die with the decapping rod removed) and see if that has trouble.
 
Mine is doing the exact same thing. The vibration from using the press causes the bushing to rotate in the press. I am going to try using some locktite on the bushing.
 
Yep I had the same problem, and if you are using the through powder belling insert its a real problem because it affects the belling.
Its the weight of the measure and its size combined with the vibration of the press.
I solved it by using a little teflon tape, the same stuff you use in plumbing, it also makes it easy to twist and unseat the bushing when you want to adjust or move the powder measure.
 
Could it be, due to the weight of the measure & the CAPD attachment, that the rubber o-ring at the top of the bushing has lost its elasticity and no longer provides compressive friction to keep the bushing from rotating? Maybe just need to replace the rubber o-ring?
 
Mine does the same thing. The vibration causes the bushing to turn and walk out. I solved the problem by using reinforced teflon tape. Looks bad, but it works...Illini
