I thought I would just share some information about another company's service, since one seems to get a lot of press.
I bought a Hornady Pro-Jector press in about 1985 or '86, and have probably loaded over 300,000 rounds on it in various calibers. It was getting loose and I wasn't able to adjust it any further for the automatic indexing, so I decided to buy one of the new LNL presses to replace it, since I was able to get 1,000 240 grain .44 caliber XTP bullets with it, the value of which just about equalled the price of the new press.
I decided to see if Hornady would do anything with the old worn Pro-Jector, so I called them. If you've never called the Hornady factory, you should do so, just to listen to the automated phone answering system. Someone has a good sense of humor there.
Anyway, I talked to a very nice lady in customer service who gave me a return authorization number for my press and took my credit card number, "just in case there are any charges", which I consider fair. I sent the press in on November 3rd, and didn't hear anything from them, and there were no charges on my credit card when I checked the account. I had told them I was in no hurry for the press, since I had the new LNL.
The press arrived late Christmas Eve, delivered by my wife's best friend, the UPS man. Hornady had replaced 20 parts on the press, adjusted and recalibrated it, all at no charge. They didn't even charge me for the return shipping.
The only thing that was really broken on the press was the primer arm return spring. Everything else was just worn from so much use, yet they replaced it at no charge.
I sure wish the manufacturer of my truck would provide service like that!....... In fact, I don't know of any other industry that stands behind their products like the reloading industry does. They sometimes get a bad rap, but I don't think it's deserved, since they provide a unique service to their customers. I know I can't return a 23 year old toaster and have it completely rebuilt at no charge, or any other product outside the reloading realm.
I've gotten the same great service from Lyman, Redding, RCBS and Dillon, as I just received from Hornady whenever a loading tool has worn out or broken. I think they are all to be commended for supporting their customer base, and I applaud them for doing it.
Hope this helps.
