A little impromptu range report concerning the 230gr+p ammo:
Firstly, this was my first time firing any sort of +p ammo in .45. The results, when coming out of one of my Witness Carry-Comps was, well, impressive. The recoil, muzzle flash and overpressure took me off-guard. It was so much more pronounced then the standard pressure ball ammo I'm used to. At ten yards (firing offhand) I managed to keep the five shots within the ten ring (sorry, no pic as I didn't have my camera on me).
For a control, I used another full-sized, all steel, albeit UNcompensated .45 (my S&W 4506-1). The group widened up some (I fired DA for each shot though the Smith's trigger pull is so smooth I don't consider that a factor) but within the ten ring once again. Once again, overpressure, recoil and muzzle flash was very prevalent.
While the ammo seems to be well-designed and F-A-S-T (for a 230gr .45), I don't feel the recoil and muzzle flash (out of my carry gun anyway) is worth it. Also, at $16/25 rounds my LCpl pay is stretched enough.
