Good AM all.

Sharing some load info with HS-6 from this weekend. Brass was all Winchester and used Winchester Large Pistol primers. HS-6 a little on the dirty side but doable.

185gr Hornady XTP; 8.7gr HS-6; COAL 1.213 @ 865fps avg
185gr Hornady XTP; 9.2gr HS-6; COAL 1.213 @ 963fps avg
185gr Hornady XTP; 9.6gr HS-6; COAL 1.213 @ 1023fps avg

200gr Hornady XTP; 7.8gr HS-6; COAL 1.210 @ 809fps avg
200gr Hornady XTP; 8.3gr HS-6; COAL 1.210 @ 875fps avg
200gr Hornady XTP; 8.8gr HS-6; COAL 1.210 @ 937fps avg

I found the 200gr XTP's a much more tolerable, and lighter recoil than the lighter 185gr XTP's. Only shot 5 round groups for average because these Hornady bullets are a little pricey and I am a little on the cheap side, and am having fun just testing some various powders! :p

I will stick to LSWC/Berry's for plinking, but sometimes hard to resist deviation and loading/shooting some brand-name stuff!!!

thanks for the info. what are the std. deviation and extreme spread numbers?

Murf...

Be happy to post deviation #'s, etc tonight...at work and notes are at home. Work...get's in the way of the really important aspects of life, such as shooting! haha

I'm guessing you are loading the 45 ACP.

Even though I'm a huge HS-6 can I just don't like using it in a low pressure round like the 45. I use mostly W231 and the rare times I want a slower powder I d go to AA#5. After all, AA#5 was developed around the 45 ACP according to Accurate. It is very clean in the 45 ACP too.

Thank you for the loading and range report.

arch,

i've had luck with hs-6 and wpl primers in the 45acp. the load used a 265 grain lswc bullet, but should work with the lightweights.

p.s. now that i think about it, i doubt hs-6 will work for lighter bullets. never mind!
