ever since i went down to nashville last sept. to shoot with the tn mafia, i've been thinking about doing something here...

but then there's not a public place we could get together to shoot around here, well not for free anyway... but i've got over 300 acres, mostly cleared, at my disposal....

the farm is located about 10 mins from the KY speedway, exit 57 on I-71...
so it's pretty much and hour drive from lexington, louisville, and cincy....

so who would be interested??? who would make the drive??

i need some idea of how many people would be there before i start planning anything else... right now i usually shoot with 4-5 people at a time, but if 15-30 people show up i'd have to do some work...

we can shoot any distance from 1 - 800 yards, clays, paper, fruit, whatever it doesn't matter as long as we don't trash the place....

it'd be a pretty prmitive setup, there are a few nice shadtrees where we could take breaks, eat and hang around... bathrooms ... well you're on your own there, i can use a tree without any problems...:scrutiny: we can get water though...

what other things should i plan for???

your input is a good thing...
:D :D

I'm in  (providing of course that I'm in town when it is scheduled).

I know a couple other guys around here who would be up for a day of converting dollars to noise :D .

what other things should i plan for???

A big roped off/well marked area well behind the lines that assorted kids could go play in. Mine will probably be along for the festivities & when they aren't on the line this would give them a place to go frolic w/o worrying about them straying where they shouldn't.

A four wheeler to use to go change the distant targets. One of the guys that I'm thinking of has a couple & would probably be willing to bring them.

If it is going to be soon, a spot for a campfire to warm up around.

Stove to make coffee on (I've got that).

this will probally be in the summer..

well, it's just a big open space so they'd have to entertain themselves... which if i remember, wasn't hard for me to do...

thanks greg, where are you located?? you're probally closer than anyone else maybe you could come down and check it out before summer... and of course make some noise....

Depending on the date, I might be in for it. I'm getting married in June, so there will be a lot of times prior to that I'll be deeply involved in preparing for that date. The easiest days for me to make it would definitly be Saturdays or Sundays, with a bit of prior warning.

How far is it from Nashville?

Frank

Probably in the neighborhood of four hours Frank (depending on traffic & the weight of your right foot :D ).

Greg

i left here at 7am and was down at the cheatham courthouse by 10am.... as it turns out, nashville is CST....

so plan for an extra hour getting here... and that bluegrass parkway on the weekend is a ghost town so....

most likely this will happpen on a sunday, probally go all day....

there is an old general store about 2 mins away, and they serve sandwiches and usually something hot for lunch depending on the day...

what kinda ranges do you guys wanna shoot... usually i'll shoot 15yds and 100yds for everyday blasting... long range stuff will depend on who wants to drive out there and set it up, but i could go ahead and measure off some generic ranges...

Oh yeah. I forgot - I'll bring my stuff from Benelli & AR to the Ruger MKII plinker. Should we bring tables, because I have a few of those laying around as well...?

Heck, if this becomes a regular thing, I'll spring for a covered tent / awning thing too.

tables would be a good thing to bring.... i only have 3, but i usually shoot rifles prone unless im sighting a scope.. also bring some chairs if you can't sit on a bucket...:D

if you want to make the trip i usually shoot every weekend, sometimes sat and sun..

infact, this weekend will be three days, if you guys wanna shoot this weekend, pm me and we'll do a prelim get together to get ready for a bigger meet in the summer... weather should be nice all weekend...
probally gonna shoot alot of clays this time, if you have a nice thrower that'd be cool, we usually use hand throwers... but we can shoot whatever, i always bring some pistols, and a rifle..

Give me some heads up on this and I'll try to make it.

Weekends are good for me.

P.S. Do we owe a certain percentage of collected brass to the host? ;)

Gathering

I've got enough outdoor cooking supplies for a fair to medium gathering so long as no one puts one of my empty propane tanks out about 150yards for practice.
I'm going to hit the "Central Indiana" gun show this weekend at the Walton Armory:rolleyes: probably saturday
Sunday works unless the wife is bent on painting the kitchen.

i just got the call and looks like sat afternoon is good to go... starting between 1-3... if you guys wanna join i'll meet you at the speedway, just drop the pm that you're in, and i'll get with you before then, with details..

well i don't know about EMPTY!!:D

if you wanna come down, i might head up to walton sat morning... the show usually sucks, but i always see people i haven't seen in a while.... pm if you're in...

I cant speak directly for Darrin and Rod...but Id almost say we would come if we can like campout and have a fire. I would love to get out of here and camp a bit. If we can like camp friday and saturday maybe. If Darrin doesnt see this ill bring it up to him. Maybe we can have a mass convoy from Nashville/Middle TN. I have a 4 door car now so can easily carry 3 combine that with like Frank's truck for supplies...we can haul a bunch easily. Just let us know a date, hell id be willing to take a day off if we can make it a weekend thing. Maybe hang out shoot the bull one day along with 22's. and then when everyone gets there have a semi organized thing.

Frank you tieing the knot??? wow :D congrats keep the TN Mafia up to date on that

if you guys wanna come up and camp out the weekend on the back 40 im all for that...

already got the firepit, camp ground and a creek close to keep the beer cold...

I'm cool with a convoy up there sometime later this summer. It'd be great if I had a copilot. As much as I hate camping (too many nights spent in the mud, under the stars, during 8 years in the Army), I'm sure I can endure for a weekend.

YY, as for ranges, if it could be arranged, I'd love to be able to shoot out to 800 yards or so. My new 700 is begging me to let him do what he's fully capable of doing. These 100 to 200 yard ranges are beginning to bore him I think.

I've got an old, busted TV that would make a fun target alongside those old PC's.

If Rodney comes along, he's got a trap thrower. We could toss it in the back of my truck for the ride up there.

Frank

I was just talking (IMing actually, she's out of town at the moment) to Mrs. L. about this & she is somewhat interested (she's not much for shotguns but enjoys tearing up a target w/ her 686 (which looks like a shotgun pattern when she is done come to think of it - & that better not get back to her :what: :D )). However we probably couldn't get down there until early/mid afternoon.

However if people are thinking about a campout we might be up for that or at least hanging around for dinner. We were planning on getting the grill out of the garage & cooking out Sat evening anyway (I just marinated about 10lbs of steak in 6 different marinades in anticipation). We could shift the cookout down there or everyone could come up here (just outside of I275) for food & cleaning afterwards (back 40 available for camping here too if needed, you'll just need to be done with the bathroom stuff by 11:00am as we're going to have to leave then). However it would probably be easier to haul the food down there & hang out by the creek.

I need an afternoon full of recoil therapy :D .

Greg

Wow, this is getting better and better. So now there is:

Camp area with fire pit & creek.
Range area with up to 800 yard shooting.
Hand held target throwers.

Suggested bring along items for group:
4 wheeler (if possible)
Tables
Big barbeque or camp stove.
Canopy tent or tarp with poles.
Targets & target stands. If this becomes a regular thing, I'm personally going to invest in some steel reactive targets for pistol work.

Suggested bring along items for individuals / families:
Chairs
Shade / Shelter from elements. Good hat at minimum. Sunscreen. Being out in the sun all day sucks, and kids will dehydrate / get sunstroke / puke everywhere.
Toilet paper / camp toilet.
Drinks & vittles & pogey bait x people x meals x days
Guns & ammo & mags <--- you'd be suprised what get's left behind.
LOCKS OR A METHOD TO SECURE ABOVE IF THERE ARE KIDS PRESENT.
Hearing protection.

What else do we need?

greg, this sat will just be a blast session, the camp out will be in the summer... let me know when you can meet if you're still up for this weekend...

if you guys do paintball there's a great setup close to the camp area for that too...

if we do a campout i'll have to schedule this during my vacation, which falls between 7-10 and 7-25, what do you think??
