Typically, I have my firearm on my person at all times. Unfortunately, there are times, now and then, when I am forced to leave it in the car; sitting at this hippie ridden coffee shop for instance :banghead:.

The problem is, here in Phoenix, a cool summer day is still well over 100 degrees. Burning the back of your arm on you seatbelt is to be expected, but burning your hands on your own firearm is a major problem.

Short of wrapping my gun in a frozen sock... what suggestions do you have.

Also..... I carry the clip in my pocket anytime the guns left in the car. I don't think it would ever get hot enough to be an issue in the car.... but I'd rather not be proven wrong.

I sometimes lock mine up if I have to go somewhere I can't carry, and it still gets hot (no direct sunlight). I just touch mine on the grip or by grabbing the whole holster. If I have to draw, the heat probably wouldn't be felt.

Car interiors can get mighty hot when parked here too ( Southern Mojave ), if leaving the Windows down an inch, does help.

I used to work sometimes in 124 degree in the shade situations, where, anything out in the Sunshine was impossible to handle, and, things in the shade were bad enough.

Not much for solutions to this...a Hand Gun left in the Car, just needs to be down low and as Shadow 7D mentions, some Cloth or a small Towel folded around it, can sure help.

The other day it was suposedly a mere 110 Degrees, and my elcheapo plastic Lighter, left in the Car in the Cup Holder next to the Ash Tray, blew up into a dozen or more shards of orange plastic...brand new and full...pretty funny. I missed the event, darn it, wish I could have seen it do that.

Put it in a cheap cooler?
If you have the cooler at the car's air-conditioned temperature, place the pistol inside and only leave it there in the sun for an hour or two the cooler's insulation should be enough, even without ice, you'd just be using it as an insulated box.

Of course, keeping your pistol at ~98.6F is pretty easy, just leave it on, adjust your routine accordingly.

Just keep it out of direct sunlight and don't worry about it.
Folks have been using and carrying firearms in the hottest deserts in the world for decades.

Is there a stipulation in your state that you cant carry into hippie ridden coffee shops? I would think unless posted it would be legal and if posted I would want to spend my money there. I keep my conceled and just go.

I wouldn't go to "hippie ridden coffee shops" if that meant I had to take off my gun......

set it in the shade, shouldn't get to hot there.

I'm in Vegas. During the summer a closed up car can reach 150-160 degrees inside in a releatively short time. Grabbing something metal that hot is not fun. Some days I have to wait to drive off because the steering wheel is hot enough to not be able to hold it. Darn black interior. :)

Not to many places are off limits here but if they are I do the following. I will place the gun on the passenger seat and aim the vent at it when I first get in. Carrying is legal this way even without a permit. it usually only takes a few minutes for it to cool down so that i can place it back into it's holster.

Not an issue for the ammo. It gets no where near hot enough to cause ammo problems. If I recall from what I have read, it takes something like 400 or more degrees to have ammo coook off. Most people suggest replacing your carry ammo after a certain period of time anyway, which I do.

Getting your windows tinted and using those windshield sun blockers can really help keep your car 20+ degrees cooler - used them in Reno and now here in FL

Leaving a gun at home in the safe - pretty good idea. Leaving a gun in your car - not a good idea.

Just as a funny sidenote ... the wife (the dirty hippie) and myself both carry into her little coffeeshop. As a matter of fact ... there's a guy there whose ultimate desire is to be a gunsmith. You should see the looks we get. People have left the shared tables were were on in a huff before.
