This seems to be making the rounds on social media but I haven't seen any discussion anywhere else. I just thought I would share a link. I'm not sure what is going on with this one yet.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/127?q={"search":["hr+127"]}&s=2&r=1

The text has not been made available yet but the description reads as follows:
H.R.127 - To provide for the licensing of firearm and ammunition possession and the registration of firearms, and to prohibit the possession of certain ammunition.

These things are always introduced. As usual, this is not going anywhere.

Until the text of the bill is made available I'm not loosing any sleep over it. It certainly won't come across well if I'm calling my representative now "I don't know what's in it but I don't like it" no matter how much that is the case. When we have the rest of the bill we can break it apart and put together decent arguments about how it will only affect those trying not to break the law in the first place and how it will further put barriers in place to prevent those at risk of violence from protecting themselves.

This looks like what we political scientists call a typical signaling bill. Rep. Shiela Jackson Lee does this a lot. It’s popular with her primary base and will help her next March but never get past the committee stage. I won’t lose sleep over this one seeing no cosponsors or text.

The Congress has a lot bigger fish to fry this year so I doubt leadership will prioritize it with a pandemic, economic problems, and not to mention this week’s events. Plus Biden seems to be shifting his personnel choices to focus on climate policy.

Let's not make more of this than it is.

There are no cosponsors, the text isn't available, it is SOP to see these pop up every legislative cycle. There's nothing more here than a title and without cosponsors there's no future to it...like so many of these things that appear.

It warrants watching, but not panic.
