Good informative video, thanks for posting the link.

"Four Million rounds a day"

"The extruder applies 700 tons of pressure"

"1200 rounds with each stroke"

Looks like a very sophisticated operation.

It also shows why only the 3 biggest companies in the US make .22, ATK, Olin and Remington.

It is obviously a major investment. One can't just decied to clean out a back room and start a new production line. Especially to meet what may be only a temporary, panic-fueled rise in demand.

4 million rounds may sound like a lot, but once you break that into bricks 4,000,000/500 = 8,000 per day. Send that out to all 50 states and you get only 160 bricks per state. Run that way for 7 days a week (round the clock prodution) is 1,120 bricks per state, though suspect it isnt a 24/7 deal so probably less than 1,000. Would not be suprised if the other manufactures put out similiar numbers. Any way you look at it is going to be spread pretty thin once you start counting the number of retail stores in any given state.

Yes, it is an interesting video. It has been around a while.

They crank out a lot of rimfire ammo at CCI. Eventually, people will start to believe that when they go to the store, some will be available when you want it and this stockpiling will end for everyone on the cheaper ammo. It only makes sense to really stockpile target ammo that shoots well in a particular firearm rather than a broad brush... stockpile everything. And, this is coming from someone who has a lot cached away for my future needs. I would prefer that the store hold the inventory for when I need it rather than the other way around, again, this is for the promotional grade 22 ammo.
