We taught some kids how to reload a bit, but kept them away from powder charging, due to knowledge of problems with other kids double-charging a few cases.

Yeah, he won't be doing any of the critical stages until he gets to be around 10/11. Depends more on maturity than calendar age though. My son was reloading by the time he was 11, about the time I started as well. Still had supervision and no bullets were added until all cases were inspected with a flashlight in the loading block. I'll break out my good old "Pacific" single stage press when he gets to that point. Although the Dillon can be used in that manner it's kinda a pain doing the hand gymnastics.
